5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story...character driven, wonderful ending
I am a 'character reader' and, therefore, usually dislike short stories because you don't have enough time to really bond with the cast. I was pleasantly surprised at this brief tale. Although it took less than an hour to read, I found myself thoroughly invested in the characters by story's end. Kudos to he author for such a great story in so few words and for creating...

3.0 out of 5 stars Falls short of possibilities
The story was well told, though predictable. But for me, a time travel story needs to include a more detailed discussion of ideas than that is presented here. The idea is very intriguing, though, and opens up paths for thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing twist on time travel, January 13, 2011

What I liked best about this short story was the novel twist on time travel, not being able to go any further back than the date of the travelers birthday. Along with the devil may care attitude of our traveler and the subtle change of events in the future gave a fresh look that debunks old time travel theory. Overall an all to short great read leaving you looking for a sequel.... Would love to have this concept expanded into a full length book. Grab it... read it... enjoy it... it's free !!!!

I know it is a short but I do wish it could have been longer. The length aside, the story felt authentic and it was entertaining.

I'm always a sucker for a good time travel story. I was not disappointed. Also enjoyed the non-standard age of the time traveler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time Travel, September 17, 2011

I'm not sure why there isn't a book description up (unless I'm blind, quite possible), but this short story is about the "First Flight" of time travel (the title has a double meaning, but sshhhhh).

Unfortunately, you're not able to travel back in time before your own birthday, so the time travel technicians have selected the oldest able person they can to go back in time and document an important event that only she can reach, along with her wit and I'm-old-and-I'll-do-things-my-way-thank-you-very-much charm. :)

This was an excellent shorty story. The main characters' personalities are well fleshed out (keeping in mind that it it a short story), and the story itself is well paced and makes sense (as time travel stories go).

It also makes you think, what comes first, the chicken or the egg? Very interesting, highly recommended.

A wonderful short story. I will look for more by this author. I'm not sure I have ever enjoyed a short story more than I did this one, and I have done a lot of reading. In fact, I don't usually read short stories because I enjoy more development, but this is very satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and thought-provoking read, November 30, 2010

This short story is a fantastic piece that really makes you wonder about the possibilities of time travel. Given the brevity, the story is short on technical details (so if you're into hard sci-fi, this may not be for you), but it actually works quite well. It allows the author to focus instead on the personalities and the narrative. It's a compelling read that keeps you wondering what happens next. I found myself pulling for the protagonist and wondering at how it it will play out. Quite worth the time to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Short Story, August 6, 2010

I thought this was a nice short story - characters we could relate to and an entertaining story line. With the ending left the way it was - I'm not going to mention it here as I absolutely hate reviews that are story spoilers - I would really hope the author will consider expanding it to future short stories or a full novel. I would buy it!

Good old-fashioned time travel story--great! The writing was a bit choppy in places, and the end was a bit abrupt. But still very enjoyable. Made me wish there were sequels.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different sort of time traveler, October 12, 2010
This review is from: First Flight: A Tor.Com Original (Kindle Edition)
This is a solid short story with a well-conceived model for time travel, and an old lady as a protagonist. Not exciting or brilliant, but a good quick read.
