A MUST for any guitarist!,
By A Customer
This review is from: First (Audio CD)
Phil Keaggy is easily the most underrated guitarist in the world. Glass Harp was his first band and were developing a pretty good following when Phil converted to christianity. The band put out another record before breaking up and Phil embarked on his solo/christian rock career. Glass Harp`s music is akin to the early Yes albums and Phil is definitely on a par with Steve Howe and others. For those not interested in hearing the sometimes cheesy lyrics Good News! Mr. Keaggy also has at least 3 instrumental releases that belong in everyones collection: The Master & The Musician (his first), The Wind and the Wheat, and Beyond Nature are all fantastic, good listening albums! Phil has the ability of jazz great Al Dimeola but more melodic!

BEST CD EVER MADE,
By A Customer
This review is from: First (Audio CD)
In 1971 I had the pleasure of seeing this band perform live in concert at the Fillmore East, I then went and bought this album, 28 years later I bought the CD and the music still sounds as wonderful as it did those many years ago...The guitar of Phil Keaggy still mystifies and takes the listener to a higher high...Recommended Cuts include Garden, Can You See Me, and Look In the Sky.....Listen for yourself to the forerunners of what is now known as "Christian Rock"

If you're reading this, you no doubt know how great this -- the original Christian rock album -- is. I still remember the very first time I heard a cut from this record on the radio in the Summer of '71. I ran out and bought it then and was "blown away." My vinyl LP (and cassette dub) have been in high rotation again for the past year. Belated thanks Phil, John and Daniel for the gift of these recordings. They stand up very well, lo these 30 years. The Harp Jams Somethin' Fierce,
By A Customer
This review is from: First (Audio CD)
Hands down one of the greatest albums in it's genre! It's so exciting to finally hear Christians playing some dang good tunes. As a very knowledgable fan of classic rock I can easily say (without hesitation) that, as a guitarist, Phil Keaggy ranks as high as greats like Joe Walsh (James Gang), john Cippolina (Qicksilver Messenger Service), Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna), and maybe even guys like Steve Howe (Yes) and Richie Blackmore (Deep Purple.) Glass Harp is a great band, and this is a great album. If you like your jams to have a wicked edge, look no further.

Great undiscovered band,

I purchased this on lp twice, once when it first came out and again in the early eighties when it was rereleased. This band had great potential yet never attained it. This lp is the better of the 2 lps the band made. Some tight musicianship throughout and some excelent guitar playing. If I remember correctly this band came from Cincinnati. They and the Bears are Cincinnati's contribution to progressive rock. The album sounds more like early Wishbone Ash with a touch of Rush. I can't recomend paying the exhorobiat price people are asking. So if I can get my web based radio station up and running again tune in I'll give the lp a full spin one night.

Good Underground Music,

I had bought this in the summer of 95. I had recently become a new Christian, and my love was music from the 60's and 70's. I figured try this. There is some sobering eerieness on this album, and some terrific guitar playing. "Can You See Me?", and "Changes(In the heart of my true love)" are the meat of this album. "Look In The Sky" is no slouch either. I did find this to be a bit disorganized as an album though as far as the order of the songs, but it shows Phil Keaggy's transformation as this album came out shortly after he became a Christian, and he was still battling his heroin demon. If you're tired of what mainstream AOR Classic Rock stations have been playing over the last 20 years this is a real treat.

AN ABSOLUTE GEM FROM THE LATE 60s,
By A Customer
This review is from: First (Audio CD)
During the late 60s/early 70s, in a bar called JBs in Kent, Ohio on Tuesday and Thursday nights, you could plunk down all of 50 cents and be treated to 3 astounding, wonderful sets by the Glass Harp. I was unbelievably fortunate to have witnessed (and marveled) at Phil Keaggy's guitar playing -- and is something I never forgot. This album recreates the best of their best -- I close my eyes and I'm transported back to those very special nights. I was ecstatic to find this album (CD). Phil was (and still is) one of the most gifted guitarists of all time -- YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO THIS!! Oh by the way, the Monday and Wednesday night band was a little group known as the James Gang led by some guy called Joe Walsh!! Another 50 cent night!! WHAT A TIME!!!!
