Book Description

July 1, 2003 4 and up
It's Tera's turn in the spotlight! She's bright and bold, and about to learn there's more to being smart than knowing all the answers.

Tera's always ready to speak her mind, and why not? After all she is a star student. So when Pod 1 is assigned a group project--to build the solar system--Tera is sure she has all the answers. But with her overzealous nature & her know-it-all ways, Tera ruffles a few tentacles (& a fluffernobbin, too). Leaving Tera wondering how being right can feel so wrong.

Shana Corey & Mark Teague are stars who know the meaning of teamwork. Together they have created another out of this world episode of their always humorous martian chronicles.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-The "kids" from Pod 1 are back. This time, purple-haired Tera is the star, or tries to be, when she puts herself in charge of a group project and alienates her fellow students with her bossy, know-it-all behavior. Before long, she finds herself alone, with even the multi-eyed Ms. Vortex refusing her an expected gold star. All ends well, though, in a satisfying and simple conclusion. Corey's humor rests on a strong foundation of universal emotion-what Earth child hasn't known, or even occasionally acted like, Tera? Teague's bright pictures are perfect, adding all sorts of wonderfully zany touches (like Tera's father's Save the Planet shirt, showing a glowing orb the same color as his golden skin). All in all, this early reader is out of this world.

About the Author

Mark Teague developed his writing and painting talents without formal training but with a healthy dose of imagination. Each of Teague's books starts as "notebooks full of sketches and scribbles, strange little drawings, and phrases that seem mostly cryptic that suddenly come together," he explains. His books tackle everything from first graders coping with life on Mars to Shakespearean characters coping with life on earth. Mischievous dinosaurs, witty dogs, nightmare haircuts, messy rooms, closet monsters - all find their way into Teague's wildly inventive books. Teague has also collaborated with many critically acclaimed authors, including Jane Yolen, Audrey Wood, and Cynthia Rylant. He lives in upstate New York with his wife and two daughters. More About the Author

I grew up in South--in Savannah and Athens, Georgia and then Charlotte, North Carolina. When I was little, I loved stories about olden-day girls--my favorites were Betsy-Tacy, All-of-a-Kind Family, Little House On the Prairie. Imagine my delight when I went to college and discovered that I could take ENTIRE classes on (and get credit for learning about!) olden-day girls! Yay college! In college, I learned to call it women's history, but really--it was the exact same topic I'd been interested in since I was five. Now, I have the great pleasure and honor of editing books for children myself. I also write picture books, most of them true stories about brave women and girls in history--women like Amelia Bloomer and Juliette Gordon Low, who had the guts to take a stand for the things they believed in and change the world. When I'm not writing or editing, I'm usually reading with my two little boys. They like stories about oldenday girls, too (though truth be told, they prefer a good truck story).

When my grandson was 5 we discovered these books at our local library. We checked the series out frequently because he liked them so much. He's now 13.

This summer I took my 7 year old granddaughter to the library for these books (She just finished 1st grade) and they were GONE! So I immediately check Amazon and found all 4 of series.

They are just silly, nonsensical kid friendly stories that address issues of being different, but wanting to fit in.

I will keep these for my next granddaughter who just turned a year old last week. We always have to have books for all age levels around this gramma's house because we always end our day with story time!
