Track list needs work,
By
This review is from: First Harvest (Audio CD)
If you're looking to get started with Alphaville, you could do worse than to pick up this expensive import, but you could also also spend a bit less and arguably get more of their best work for your money. The good: the inclusion of the achingly gorgeous "Lassie Come Home" and the giddy, goofy, dance-around-the-living-room classic "Sensations," two tracks from AV's second album _Afternoons in Utopia_ that didn't seem to get enough attention the first time around. The bad: sadly, the third album just wasn't very good, and the four tracks chosen to represent it here don't seem likely to convince anyone otherwise. I say, skip this one, pick up _Forever Young_ and _Afternoons in Utopia_ instead -- hey, they're both available used at bargain-basement prices -- and burn yourself a nice mix featuring the selections from those albums included here, plus "Fallen Angel," "Universal Daddy," "Summer in Berlin," and whatever else strikes your fancy. Then, once you're suitably obsessed, pick up _Prostitute_ and _Salvation_ (albums #4 and #5), whose pleasures are myriad.

Best selection of Alphaville songs,
This review is from: First Harvest (Audio CD)
This is definitely the best collection of their work on one CD, as other compilations that I have seen do not include one or two of their top efforts. The band has a typical 80's pop sound with a hint of rock in numerous places, lots of synth. Lyrics are strong and production excellent. The main tracks off the album have gripping melodies - "Big In Japan", "Sounds Like A Melody", "Dance With Me" and "Forever Young". The depth and reach of the sound is just fantastic, and you will definitely be exercising the louder levels of your audio system. The other songs definitely hold their own and grow on the listener as time goes by. This is a definite buy, go and get it.

Great album.,

This review is from: First Harvest (Audio CD)
After first bringing this album back to the US back in 1992, I have had numerous requests for copies from friends. I have dutifully brought back copies on every trip to Germany or the Czech Republic. The selection of singles exceeds in quality those on any of the US-release Alphaville greatest hits albums. If you only buy one Alphaville album, this is the one to have!
