Grade 2–4—This attractive book covers much the same material as Cherry Hill's Horse Care for Kids
(Storey, 2002), but for younger readers. Draper focuses on pony breeds commonly used in the United Kingdom and on English-style riding and tack. The information about feeding, grooming, and riding is detailed, accurate, and accessible. There are lots of helpful safety tips and a short, helpful glossary. The photographs are beautiful and in sharp focus. Many of the color schemes tend toward pastel blues, pinks, and purples, and one pony is shown wearing a hot pink blanket. This book is a must-have for young horse lovers and an excellent choice to update collections.—Kathleen E. Gruver, Burlington County Library, Westampton, NJ
