5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on pregnancy and the first year of your baby! Look no furthur.
We're expecting our third child and I picked up this book because I liked the title. I figured almost two years worth of information in one book would be nice since we already kind of know about preganacy and the baby's first year. I wouldn't have to read too much with my busy schedule and maybe get one or two good tips I didn't get before. Was I wrong...

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't appreciate some of the discussions
I purchased this book when we were expecting the birth of our first child. I wanted something to compliment the "what to expect" book. I found the author's discussion on subjects like circumcision and other matters a bit harsh, if not scary. I stopped reading it about a third of the way through w/no desire to finish.

We're expecting our third child and I picked up this book because I liked the title. I figured almost two years worth of information in one book would be nice since we already kind of know about preganacy and the baby's first year. I wouldn't have to read too much with my busy schedule and maybe get one or two good tips I didn't get before. Was I wrong!

This book is not thin, total 317 pages. And yet, it reads so easy and fast (even considering my first language is not English). As I was reading this book, I was amazed how much information this book is packed with! This book covers not only the generic facts on how your baby grows, but also suggests what you can do as parent(s). It also has many wonderful photos.

Dr. Greene covers physical stuff such as nutrition, but also covers how you act and think may affect your baby. He also covers in detail how the baby develops - very informative and I had to read several passages to my husband. His respect and love for the life also can be felt throughout the book which also increased my own respect, awe, wonder, and love for our third baby.

I love to read and I've skimmed through many books on pregnancy, but this one is the best one and I am reading this thoroughly. This is like an all the best books on pregnancy and first year combined in one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read and resource, August 27, 2004

This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
First Kicks to First Steps is a fabulous read and resource for all parents. Dr. Greene not only shares his expertise on "what" to do to give our children the best start, but shares the "why." As a mother and pediatrician, I appreciated Dr. Greene's eloquent writing, thoughtful insights, and humorous stories. I enjoyed every page and look forward to sharing it with family and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book For a Parent By a parent, January 21, 2005
This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)

Once I got into Dr.Greene's Book I quickly realized this was a really special book, I was most of the way thru it before i remembered it was susposed to be a dry parenting book. From First Kicks To First Steps was an easy read with many of relevent up to date ideas.
I loved the fact that it is apparent the good doctor really knows what he is talking about, everything from the pro's and con's of disposable vs. cloth diapers to vitamin care for healthy moms to be.
The photo's scattered throughout were beautiful and thought provoking.
In Conclusion, I am really impressed that Dr.Greene's book really seemed to be written for the real mother, this book is indeed my story.

This book is absolutely essential to any and all new parents, or parents to be. It explains just about everything having to do with pregnancy and the first year of life, without instilling fear in parents. I only wish that the book was published prior to having my two children.

5.0 out of 5 stars My husband and I adored this book-- perfectly readable, January 12, 2005

This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
My husband and I loved reading this book. Usually these books are a little sterile. This one was great fun to read. You can read this book cover to cover, or do as we did and sit at the dining room table flipping to various pages at whim. The book is well written, easy to read, and presents you with the highest science and best thinking from one of today's most prominent pediatricians. We loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better!, January 2, 2005

This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
As a practicing pediatrician, both patients and friends frequently ask me for book recommendations. Until this book, I had to suggest two or three different titles to cover both pregnancy and the first year of life. Dr. Greene has written an authoritative reference that celebrates your developing baby in a comprehensive but easy-to-understand way, and it is now the sole book I recommend for parents-to-be!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Warm and Wonderful Guide for Moms AND Dads, October 31, 2004
This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
I found a lot of pregnancy/infant development books to have too much of an agenda in terms of what the author thinks pregnant women and moms should be and do. I loved Dr. Greene's approach to his subject. His obvious love of children and joy in sharing information with expecting and new parents was very comforting. I really enjoyed his explanation of the journey a growing child goes through, beginning with conception. I wish he had been my biology teacher in high school- maybe I would have paid more attention! My husband appreciated the fact that dads aren't left out - there's lots of interesting info that relates to them and lets them know how important their role is. Thanks, Dr. Greene!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for new parents, December 2, 2004
This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
I have given this book as a gift to two of my friends who are pregnant. Overall, this book is extremely well written, and I believe every new parent should have a copy. Dr Greene offers practical and loving advice that is not over the top. Most importantly, he makes you feel special to be a new parent and he boosts your confidence in assuming the responsibilities that come with this new role.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! It reads like a great novel!, October 25, 2004
This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
I read this book from front to back in two days! Then, I turned around and read it again! It's filled with tons and tons of stuff you'd never expect from a pregnancy/baby book, but always wished you knew. Dr. Greene gives more important information in a much better way than any other book I've read, and believe me, I've read quite alot. I've collected maternity books my whole life and this by far is my crowning glory! There are some great tips and tricks in this book. They say babies don't come with manuals, but this book is the manual everyone's been looking, waiting and longing for! I plan to give copies of this book to mothers-to-be at every baby shower I attend from now on!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I love Dr. Greene!, January 7, 2008
This review is from: From First Kicks to First Steps : Nurturing Your Baby's Development from Pregnancy Through the First Year of Life (Paperback)
Although I read this book late in my pregnancy, I would recommend it to any expecting parents! I thought that his insight was more direct (and aligned to my own personal philosophies) than most expectant 'mom' books. Dr. Greene's other book, Raising Baby Green (my personal favorite), encouraged me to pick up this one, and I feel as though many moms and dads have a lot to learn from his experience as both father and pediatrician. Every question from should I eat organic to which diapers to use are covered- don't miss out on this book (it would also make a great shower or congratulations gift!)
