3.0 out of 5 stars Decent but......
Peppered with weak tracks. I'm gonna have to agree a little with Khorie Heard and a little with those of you giving this album five stars. I gave it three and the highest I could go is a 3.5 just because Faith's voice is so dam% great. However, I'm not so sure she put her talent to its best use on this one. After my first listen I was not so happy with this one, but then...

Definately, a classic CD from the highly respected, utilized(almost every artist you can name has her on their track from R&B, Gospel, Hip Hop)who else can say that, and one of the most humble ladies of R&B & hiphop, in respect to vocal talents, who consistently delivers a smooth, melodic, sweet style. The tracks vary and flow so harmoniously . The Netumes hot club track Me & My Girls Going Out Tonight; Again, Back & Forth, Jealous, Mesmorized. I mean the whole joint is like that while she is reflecting on her life. I mean this one is really nice and smooth with funk, ballads(like no one else can do them) and soul. I can't say enough good things about this one. And to add to that she not a copy cat artist. She is an original vocalist that stays constant no matter what the industry or hottest new artist are presenting/representing.
Much Love to Faith. She is all that.

4.0 out of 5 stars The First Lady Gets the Last Word., April 7, 2005

After three albums on the Bad Boy label, Faith Evans returns with "The First Lady," her debut release on Capitol/EMI. The widow of the Notorious B.I.G., Evans has a bruised and gusty voice that, when armed with the right material, sets her apart from the faceless studio creations that often dominate the airwaves. But as is the case with most divas, Evans is not without her share of personal drama. The lyrics in "Again" are anything but ambiguous: the directly reflect on her recent run-in with the law and prior battle with drugs. "Mesmerized" has a tight groove that recalls James Brown; the Neptunes-produced track "Goin' Out" will find a welcome home in many clubs, and "Until You Came" is a tender slow jam that compliments Faith's voice nicely. Compared to her last three records, the production on "The First Lady" is less trendy and relies a bit more on live instrumentation, but the street sensibility remains. My "faith" has been renewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC FAITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!, April 9, 2005
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
Man, oh man, where do I begin?! First Lady is absolutely fitting for this long-awaited album. Faith not only puts her heart and soul into the music, she sings with conviction. Silky smooth, sensual, and strong is the voice! A testimony that change is always good! A personal message to Faith - don't look back, fast forward.

Track Feedback

AGAIN 5/5 A true testimony to NO REGRETS and courage!

I DON'T NEED IT 4/5 Clap your hands to this one!

STOP N GO 5/5 "Fade away like Jordan." Whoa! This cut takes it to the court! I can envision her man at the foul line and Faith telling the brother if you miss, I am through with you! "If I let you catch me will you run your mouth?" Faith is woman and will roar!

MESMERIZED 5/5...beats, beats, beats. Throwback track on the album that will have you strapped in stilettos, sporting afro puffs and hoop earrings in a funky groove. This one is for the real soul sistas and should be the next release!

TRU LOVE 5/5 makes you want to stay in love.

JEALOUS 4/5 nothing typical about this track. Faith sings the truth about a dangerous emotion with passion.

EVER WONDER w/ Mario Winans 3/4 - I just didn't feel the magic in this duet - at least not yet.

CATCHING FEELINGS 5/5 A tantalizing temptation of a woman with an appetite for the young!!! A sexy cut.

GET OVER YOU 4/5 - Singing about the one that got away...Makes you want to Press play and do a drive-by.

UNTIL YOU CAME 5/5 Simply Beautiful!

Lucky Day 5/5 - Signature song. Fun and free-spirited track that will make you want to lace up your roller skates and get your swerve on! Faith sings like the wind is blowing in her hair.

Faith IS NO DOUBT SHOWING GROWTH WITH HER NEW INDUSTRY FAMILY! Smart move...REMEMBER, FIRST LADY, NO REGRETS!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars "I've learn so much from my mistakes..." (4.5 Stars), July 3, 2005

They say artists surrounded by drama usually produce the best albums. Cryptic? Yes. But truthful, evident with Faith Evan's fourth album "The First Lady." Not only is this album an exceptional one, but it also manages to perfectly balance various types of songs (like tempos or depictions) while still adhering to its cohesiveness. Highlights include the simple but beautiful "Tru Love," the club-friendly opener "Goin' Out," the old-school soul of "Until You Came," the funky "Mesmerized," the bonus track "Hope," the catchy "Lucky Day" (which recalls the days of 'Zhane'), and the best song on the album, the testimonial "Again" (which brings up her recent problems; being arrested in Atlanta and the drug possession.) Although, if I were to be nitpicking, I would say some of the themes are revisited from past albums. But that would be a little too overcritical, considering the album's poignant and emotional quality. It showcases Faith Evans' beautiful voice, eclectic style, and above all, despite tribulations, her ability to pick up where she left off; a perfect example of how we fall and get back up.

5.0 out of 5 stars super-dupa cool, January 20, 2006

I first heard Faith when she did "I remember the way you used to love me" and I felt she is the better vocalist compared to MJ Blige, who relies, mostly on her "ghetto-girl" image, but this CD has taken me to another level of enjoying mordern R&B, coz I am so tired of these girls that are comin out nowadayz. First LAdy oozes vibe, soul, melody, and tunes you could play again and again. I love, no.12, no.2, no.5, no1, no.6, and can play them the whole day. I promise you you wont be skipping tracks, like with these other R&B girls, I tend to be very choosy and fussy when it comes to selecting my music to buy but Faith has been in the game enough to know what works, and when I saw her live perfomance I just had to buy this cd and I dont regret it. So go get it and dont be fooled by BillBoard charts, coz the list is full of mediocre stuff, the good cd's last no more than a month on the charts

5.0 out of 5 stars The First Lady.....Still On Top, January 4, 2006
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
What can I say about my favorite singer Faith Evans accept she got it goin on. On her new project "The First Lady" Faith uses new vocal stunts that only rival the artist who she mimics Karen Clark-Sheard The First Lady of Gospel who is just as good as Faith but has better skills with the vocals. The reason I said that is because to the last dude that wrote Faith's voice is original was wrong Karen Clark -Sheard is the originator of the runs and riffs Faith uses it's a known fact. I was really impressed by this cd as much as I love Faith I was nervous about her move to capital records but when I head the single "Again" I was not worried at all. She came out swingin on that joint this cd is worth the listen I have not moved out my ipod yet Faith did it "Again".

5.0 out of 5 stars Faith really has what it takes to be, April 19, 2005
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
a great singer/songwriter and this CD really showcase her range and voice. Her first song, "Again", is about what she had gone through in the past year. But I really love her first song, "Going Out." I wish it be the first song off her CD instead of "Again." Then again, both songs are great.

As for the rest of the songs on her CD, the 70's influence is more readily felt. I could write more about it.

All in all, her album is a cut above the mediocrity that passes as music today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love It, December 24, 2005
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
I love the heavy bass combined with the synths on "Goin' Out" - it's just the one to play whilst your getting ready to go out with the girls. "Again" is a mellow one and suits Faith Evan's sweet husky voice a lot. These are my favourite songs on this album but the whole album is very listenable.

4.0 out of 5 stars A long time coming, April 17, 2005
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
I have been waiting a while for faith evans to come back out with another CD. I really like this cd. These are my favorites:

Goin' Out- a fast beat track for the ladies (ladies you will love it).

Again- she brings it out in this song. She lets out her emotion

Tru love- this is a beautiful song for couples that are together for the long term and plan on being married.

Jealous- everybody should like this song, because I think that everybody has a jealous side in them

until you came- this is a song talking about never knowing what true love is until they met that special person that brought it out of them

Hope- This song explains itself

5.0 out of 5 stars Faith Is Back And Better Than Ever, May 9, 2005
By
This review is from: First Lady (Audio CD)
In the beginning of 2005, Faith Evans had not released an album in four years. She endured many hardships, including rehab and depression. Many wondered if she could reflourish as an artist and through mainstream. In fact, many lost faith in her. However, in April 2005, she released "The First Lady". The musical contact blew away many listeners. It received massive rave reviews, and it followed with strong first-week sales.

In a country where most mainstream R&B and hip-hop consists of quickly manufactured bland close-minded songs, Faith Evans redefines the meaning of contemporary R&B. The infectous grooves show obvious effort, creating a vibe that fits well with the album theme. Many artists have tried creating similar themes in recent years, but most are underproduced, overproduced, or fake. Every song on "The First Lady" presents true hip-hip and R&B. She stays modern without selling out. With her songwriting, she gives these songs the heart and soul that it deserves lyrically and musically. Such quality proves worth the four-year wait.

Lyrically, she digs deep within her recent turbulances to create a wonderful emotional album. These songs tackle various themes that don't always express life reflection (her hit song "Again"). Rather, many songs express her life now as a happier woman. She expresses having a great night out ("Goin' Out"), falling in love ("Mesmerized"), fun jealously ("Jealous"), and others. These words offer great renewance in her career and in mainstream hip-hop/ R&B (at least as much as mainstream can).

Her strong vocal talents allow these songs to express themselves as they should. Her voice wonderfully swings with the R&B grooves. She can fluctuate from having fun to reflecting her hardships; yet, she keeps the emotional impact intact. Despite the differences in words, she manages to fit it within the album beautifully. Her collaborations give these performances the added enjoyment: Pharrel and Pusha T ("Goin' Out"), Mario Winons ("Ever Wonder"), and Twista ("Hope"). Despite "Hope" being a Twista-primary song, it works well as an album closer and as a song from the "Coach Carter" Soundtrack. Thankfully, she found fellow talented artists instead of sell-outs that would have ruined the album.

Such album quality proves Faith Evans as a true R&B artist. Therefore, "The First Lady" is sure to please many R&B and Faith Evans fans. In fact, this may become addicting.
