Excellent source for introducing bible memory verses,
This review is from: My First Read And Learn Favorite Bible Verses (Read and Learn (Scholastic)) (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book for introducing young children to the bible and the memorization of verses. The verses are easy for a young child to understand and memorize. Later the child will enjoy "reading" the book to you.

I don't know... I was sorely tempted to buy this when I saw it in the Ross Dress For Less the other day for $5.99 (I always like to have "the set"). I have the other two of these (My First Read And Learn Book Of Prayers (Little Shepherd Book) & My First Read And Learn Bible) in addition to the larger Bible book Read And Learn Bible but I couldn't see what I'd :do: with it. The book has some really nice quoted Bible verses for children, but that's all it is... one or two unrelated quotes per page.
I have a 3.5 y.o. and she likes to sit and hear stories. She sits and listens for long story after long story... but if I sat and read these Bible verses to her she would be flipping the pages so quickly we'd be done almost as soon as we're started. There aren't a lot of related pictures that she can look at for us to prompt discussion, so it just makes for a fast, awkward read. I guess the "My First Read & Learn Book of Prayers" is a little that way too, but I like that one a little better because I can see us repeating a short prayer in our daily life as a way of teaching our daughter about prayer. I :guess: you could use the quotes, too but that's just not our family... we don't go around quoting the Bible to eachother on a daily basis. And I just can't see getting my toddler to memorize a Bible verse. Because this is book not a story, it's not really going to get a lot of "lap time" at our house. On the positive side, I love the artwork of these books. I love the quotes that they've carefully chosen. I like the "padded" cover of this chubby, board book. BOTTOM LINE? Love the others, this one I could pass on. |
