This review is from: The First Lessons in New Era Time (Audio CD)
with meisha's new full length we find the band to be back in action with their original line up. it seems that their time apart was well spent because the first lessons in new era time is meisha's best album to date and possibly te best album this year. this is music for anyone that is a fan of everything from john fahey to tortoise to la monte young to spacemen three to steve reich to god speed you black emperor. meisha might be the missing link between post rock and god. the music is ever changing and always evolving. guitars chime into layers of shimmering timbre. the rhythms evolve frantically into rance like dervishes. this music is meisha's most emotional work to date. i see this as being in part to michael tamburo's temporary blindness that thankfully he has overcome. i read a quote form him saying "the moment i stopped seeing the guitar as "a guitar" and started to really listen to the instrument and feel it i had know other choice than to play it differently." meisha's side project the arco flute foundation is great too.
