My One Year Old Loves this book!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: My First Lift-the-flap Abc Board Book (My First Life-The-Flap) (Board book)
What I appreciate about this book is that the pictures are actual photographs rather than drawings. Most books for babies tend to be cartoon drawings and it makes it confusing for children to learn the words for things when they try to relate to a cartoon dog versus a real dog (for example). This book shows many, many pictures and words of real everyday things. The flaps add even more fun to the book and really get the babies involved.

This book is fun! It is also a great educational tool. The pictures are big, bright, and bold...just right for young eyes! We gave this to my great-neice for Christmas. She unwrapped lots of gifts that night (even some dolls). However, she went straight for this little book. Carrying it around all night looking under the flaps, saying "Look Momma!!!!!". That's proof enough right there!

As many parents know, when we want our children to learn to read early, it can be difficult engaging them in books in the beginning thanks to their short attention spans. You just have to find what works for your child, and for my son he loves flip-the-flap books. So, when searching for a good alphabet book that I knew he would let me read to him, I went straight for one with flaps in it, and this book has multiple flaps on every page. Thankfully, it's been a success with my son and he will let me sit down and read it to him multiple times for extended periods, which is exactly what I wanted!

I received a Lift-the-Flap book as a hand-me-down (it was one on "sizes" that focused on opposites in its format), and my 17-month-old son was choosing to read it every night. I ordered a few more Lift-the-Flaps, and I'm really pleased with the ABC book. I love the photographs of realia--as opposed to drawings--and appreciate that concepts are introduced in addition to the words and pictures. I also appreciate the authors' efforts to include things both familiar (yo-yo) and unfamiliar (yacht...at least, in the South) to toddlers, and there are plenty of objects included that are part of a toddler's world. This book is sure to increase my son's vocabulary, as it grabs his attention continually throughout the day.

We bought this book for our one year old who loves flap books. This one has so many flaps that it is a great discovery for her. The only reason I didn't give 5 star rating because they tried to fit too many letters onto one page. A bit crammed in. Visually it is a little much but perhaps it is for an older child. Still, it is a good book to have in a baby collection.

We got this book (together with My First Word and My First Animals) books from the same series from my parents when my daughter was 9 months old, and she took to it immediately. The book has clear and bright pictures, and it's sturdy. We've been through one year of active reading, and all the flaps are still in place. I think it helped a lot with her vocabulary. Now, at the age of 22 months, she can name pretty much each object in the book, often together with stories that we made up about the objects. I definitely recommend it.

Trying to get two year old active twins to sit with a book is very difficult. I was thrilled to see a lift the flap book (which they love) combined with learning the alphabet. The size of the book is large so both boys can see and play with a page at the same time. They get a little frustrated when not every picture has a flap to lift to show another picture but they are definitely engaged and interacting with this book and the letters -- just what we wanted!
