3.0 out of 5 stars A writer who takes interesting chances... December 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
An epic, episodic fantasy about a healer and the two paladins she befriends. I had fun reading the book, but I felt it needed more polish--not in the sense that it had bad editing (it was fine), but in the sense that the episodes didn't flow effortlessly together, and this caused a lot of interruptions for inserting backstory and explanations because of it. The ending left me hanging as to the romantic fate of the two main characters, which I thought was really risky for the writer to do, but I thought she pulled off well.

It's tricky writing a healer character: they don't go forth and do battle. Fortunately, the author paired her with a couple of good paladins with distinct personalities, which made for an interesting mix. The main character quickly falls in love with one of them and nearly dies trying to save his life--healers have to take risks, too. The author is continually putting the main character in danger instead of leaving her at the back of the party, doing little healings and buffs, which (as a gamer) I really liked.

The social system of the plains folk was interesting--another risk that the writer took. I'd like to see more of that culture, but this wasn't really the book for it, I think.

Overall, a nice effort by an author who likes to take risks and pulls them off reasonably well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Samantha Bates November 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The Healers Dance has left me with one burning question - will there be a second following the two main characters, Stefan and Emily?

The story told by the author is in a word lovely, containing great description, and a good storyline this is one to read. I really felt like I understood the characters and liked the developing romance, especially the twists that followed. With some great magic, no sexual scenes and crude language, I feel this would be a great young adult romance.

The only negative for me is that I was unable to pinpoint the era the story was set in, at times I felt it was historical, and then not so sure. However I still really enjoyed this and would rate it 4/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely tale, engrossing world, I want more! December 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this novel. With all of the craziness of the holiday rush, I thoroughly enjoyed curling up with The Healer's Dance. It flowed beautifully, as graceful as Emily's dance with amazing imagery and a truly unique take on love, morality, and inner strength. I truly hope Ms. Raleigh intends to continue the story as I find myself eager to revisit Emily's world. I have already suggested this gem to my friends!

Raleigh has a long way to go with her storytelling. The Healer's Dance is a magical escape, with compelling characters. Though I don't read paranormal stories often, there is a sweetness in this novel that I find charming. Fans of the genre will fall in love with The Healer's Dance.
