A bit towards the twee but entertaining,
By
This review is from: First Love-Deluxe Edition (Audio CD)
Emmy isn't going to be the next Bob Dylan. Her compositions have more claws than you'd think if you actually listen to the lyrics rather than her well-enunciated singing style and impeccable musical style, but in the end they are a bit, well, fluffy. But quite entertaining and listenable and likable. And after all the intention is entertainment, isn't it? Emmy's songs are articulate and intelligent and entertaining, and if they lack a certain weight, well. Not *everything* has to be so serious, wot?
This special edition adds some of Emmy's more delightful and irreverent songs such as "Edward is Dedward". Definitely get this one rather than the regular edition, the extra songs are excellent and well worth it.

Second-best album of 2009,
This review is from: First Love-Deluxe Edition (Audio CD)
After Death's ...For the Whole World to See. Unlike another reviewer, I don't find the songs on First Love "twee" or "fluffy" in the least. Sharp and substantial, I would call them. (Amazon has clips from the album here, so you can gauge for yourself.) But I do agree that the disc to get is the one with the four bonus tracks off the Edward EP.
