I got this for my first child. She's now 18 months and we've really enjoyed cooking and eating the recipes from this book as a family. I love that I have the entries for her milk feeds and her first meals. The foods are great for the whole family to eat. We still eat the 6 to 9 month purées as toppings for pasta. And the book becomes a wonderful keepsake from an important time. It helped motivate me to take what my daughter eats very seriously, and it allowed me to look at how I'd been feeding her to see how we were doing.

I bought this book as my 5 month old is nearing that time to start solids. The photos are beautiful and there are SOME recipes that are good. But I was shocked at how she recommends introducing foods- 7 kinds in 7 days? 3 meals of solids/day by the end of the first month? And by week two, mixtures of items? Liberal use of onions? What the heck!

I was also surprised to see how many times ketchup was an ingredient in the toddler meals- and how involved some of the recipes are!

Sure you could take this book with a grain of salt, and just use it for the recipes, but instead, I recommend Cooking for Baby: Wholesome, Homemade, Delicious Foods for 6 to 18 Months. I just bought this and the recipes were great, the advice practical and logical. As for Annabel Karmel? I'm getting rid of this one and not buying any more of her books.

This book is great for new parents who are interesting in making their own baby/toddler food at home. It is really simple, gives you options, and I love that it will be a keepsake to look back on and see what my baby liked and didn't like. The journal aspect of it, is what really got me. I have other baby recipe books as well though!
