Perfect,
By "t-5" (Birmingham, AL USA) - See all my reviews

"First Of a Million Kisses" is my go-to album when someone asks me to name my favorite. Others come and go, but this music is timelessly inviting. Edie Reader's voice is enchanting, and Mark E. Nevin's guitar sounds are sublime. "Kisses" blends folk and acoustic pop with a dash of jazz into a mix that is warm, intimate, and wonderfully listenable. This is the sort of music that will make you want to take the hand of the one you love and invite them to dance on your living room floor. At the very least, this music will make you slow down and smile, and take deep, satisfied breaths. And afterwards, life might seem to contain more wonder than it did before you listened.

Five stars just isn't enough for this glorious recording,

I picked this disc up after catching a fleeting glimpse of "Perfect" late one evening on VH-1. What a wonderful surprise it was--and is! Words simply cannot begin to describe the power and beauty of this recording. One of the finest things I have ever heard; I recommend it wholeheartedly. Eddi Reader's voice is simply remarkable and the subtle arrangements only add to its power. A final note: I've recommended this to a few people, and all of them have come away with unusually strong (overwhelmingly positive) feelings about this particular disc. Anyone with a taste for great music can't help but enjoy it. Now, quit reading and BUY THIS DISC NOW! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Eddi Reader is Perfect!,

I was first made aware of Fairground Attraction when their first single was released. Most people have heard "Perfect". After all, it was the theme of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. So I bought the album and got a major surprise. Every single track was brilliant. Eddi Reader's voice is a powerful instrument. She has a range that would put an opera diva to shame and a style that seems to come from a fusion of Jazz, Blues and Celtic tones. This CD is one for all those people that want to listen, cry and laugh.

An Overlooked GEM,
By

It is a shame that Fairground Attraction isn't around anymore. I understand they were a big hit in the UK, and never achieved that level of success in the U.S.A., which is a SHAME! Listen to any of the songs on this album and you are wisked away with sensuous sounds and lucious rhythms. Eddi Reader's voice is like that of an angels, wishing you well and at the same time enveloping you in a blanket of warmth and love. The instrumentation of the band, along with their wonderfully written songs, truly takes your hand and holds it throughout the lovely journey of melody and time. This album's lovely tunes really were before their time, and if the band were to get together today, I think they'd find themselves a whole other audience and level of success in the USA, particularly since artists nowadays seem to have a very limited vision (or anything new for that matter). I highly recommend this album.

An enduring and wonderful album,

I also bought this album about 1988, after hearing the catchy pop single "Perfect." I can't imagine ever tiring of it, it is not the slightest bit dated. The pop sensibility, blending of traditional sounds, and musical skill are timeless. The album has it all - lyric, melody, music, vocals, variety. "A Smile in A Whisper" is one of the great love songs of all time. Several energetic, fun songs - like "Find My Love," "Clare," and "Falling Backwards" are mixed with some wonderful slower songs - "Moon on the Rain," "Whispers" and "Allelujah." Then there's just plain unique stuff: "Fairground Attraction" , "Mythology." Sample the songs in the order I mentioned them, see what you think!

hearing this for the first time in many years i am still utterly charmed by eddi reader's voice and the interesting and yet unobtrusive arrangements."allelujiah" is simply one of the most beautiful vocal performances i have ever heard.i bought this in england in '88 or so and gave it to my then girlfriend. i bought other copies for my sister and my best friend and...i need one now! i suggest if you have it, give it to somebody you really like and then go get another one! wonderful and lovely

I have had this CD is my collection for years and to this day rate it as one of the most astounding CDs i have ever heard.
Every track is just amazing and stirs up human emotions like no other CD i have heard before or since. Why this band didnt hit the heights globally is beyond me. Maybe it was ahead of its time who knows. If it were released today i am sure it would be a global sensation. Check out singer Eddi Readers solo work also as she has a voice and style that has to be heard to be believed. Trust me folks this is a CD that will blow you away.

I was thrilled to find this old favorite out there on Amazon. I had the cassette tape back in the late 80's/early 90's and wore it down. This cd is compelling and oddly familiar at the same time. Love the music and just love the lead singer's voice.
