4.0 out of 5 stars Well-etched rock, with a little synth flavor
"First Offense", Corey Hart's first album, features some rather diverse musical styles. For instance, there's the synthesizer-rock driven "Sunglasses At Night", the jazzy "Peruvian Lady" and "She Got The Radio" and the melancholic, heart touching ballads, which are Corey's forte, foretold both musically and lyrically in "It...

2.0 out of 5 stars FIRST EFFORT
Ok, i'll grant it to you...the one thing that first got me was the cute hunk looks of corey hart on the cd cover.
But i was only 13...and the guy was so hot! it came as a pleasant surprise buying this cd a few years later and find out some songs were actually as good: the infectuos SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT (definitely a must of a song back in the early '80s...), the sweet...

"First Offense", Corey Hart's first album, features some rather diverse musical styles. For instance, there's the synthesizer-rock driven "Sunglasses At Night", the jazzy "Peruvian Lady" and "She Got The Radio" and the melancholic, heart touching ballads, which are Corey's forte, foretold both musically and lyrically in "It Ain't Enough" and "Jenny Fey". There's also a little Latin flavor in the somewhat salsified rhythms of "At The Dance". These are just some of the tracks which make "First Offense" a CD to add to your collection. It's a real shame this is no longer available on EMI as a domestic title, so get it while you still can!

5.0 out of 5 stars *still* unrecognized talent, November 6, 1998

Corey Hart burst onto the MTV music scene with his hit single, "Sunglasses at Night". A few pretty major hits followed after that (Never Surrender, Can't Help Falling, etc.), but anyone who has sampled even a few of his albums can't help but feel that he has been pretty un-recognized and very underrated, given his undeniable talent. This is nothing less than a crime in my opinion.

This first record by Corey Hart contains a number of songs that could easily have been the FM hits that 'Sunglasses at Night' was; maybe it was a good thing that they weren't. Overwhelming success at the tender age of 21 (yes, he was *21* when he made this record!!) might have served only to compromise the quality of his later work.

As it stands, other cuts, like "Peruvian Lady" have the undeniable mark of talent; it is all the more rare, because it is the kind of young and buoyant talent that captured the interest of idol-hungry teenagers but will endure because of its absolute qualities.

Thanks again to Amazon.com for making available a rare CD that deserves to be more available to lovers of great music-- and that's what this CD is chock-full of: Great, great music. I've since lost the original record, but I'm putting the CD in my In-Basket right NOW!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Consistent Hart".,, February 16, 2010

I have been a Corey Hart (CH)'s fan since I heard "Never Surrender" in the 80s, his big hit from the bestseller album "Boy In The Box". "First Offense" album is reminiscent of "Boy In The Box" in singing style & sound. His voice is however sharper than ever. Solid tracks include "Sunglasses At Night", "Cheatin' In School", "At The Dance" , and "Jenny Fey". If you like "Boy In The Box", you 'll enjoy this one & much more. CH is consistent in delivering good music in this earlier debut release! A highly recommended reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Corey Hart, February 22, 2007
This review is from: First Offense (Audio CD)
Other reviewers below, what can I say? , some people thought the Beatles sucked too when I was growing up.

If you can have only one Corey Hart Album, this is it! One of the few I have loved every cut on it, and thought fit in with the rest. He had several other "good" albums, but none like this one. Get it if you don't have it, or were too young to have been exposed to the best of the early 80's.

Corey is now on his ninth cd. It's a shame that you can't find more than four of them on the "world" wide web. the lastest, "jade" is his best to date. an unrecognized talent going yet again, unrecognized.

4.0 out of 5 stars FIRST OFFENCE.............NOT!, March 29, 2000
This review is from: First Offense (Audio CD)
First Offence is the first album recorded by Corey Hart. He had been writing songs however since he was 13 years old. Some of these have been used on the album. He sings about the high school dance on "At the Dance",even though he recorded this album at 22 years old.Still its good to hear his early writings. First Offence blends pop with a rock edge. Highlights are Peruvian Lady,Lamp at midnite,Shes got the radio and the hit single Sunglasses At Night which is an extended version. This album is very enjoyable bubblegum pop but not his best work. That came later!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 80's Music!!, December 4, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: 1st Offense (Audio CD)
This album is perfect for fans of 80's hits. I first heard it from my mom, since she owns it on a tape. We listen to it a lot in the car, especially on those long trips! First Offence is really fun to sing along to, as most of the songs are easy to understand. Go ahead, try it!
