An inspired life, August 4, 2007
This review is from: First Person Singular: John Hope Franklin (DVD)
This film traces John Hope Franklin's life from his birth in the tiny all-black hamlet of Rentiesville,Oklahoma to his place among the most honored of African-American scholars of his time. He has served as chairman of the history departments of the University of Chicago, Duke University and Brooklyn College, and as president of every major scholarly historical association in America, including the American Historical Society, the South Historical Association, the Association of American Historians and, as well, of Phi Beta Kappa. Now in his 92nd year, he is still writing, lecuring, and tending to his prize winning orchids and to his avocation of fly-fishing for brook trout. He has tweaked the conscience of Americans during a professional career of 70 years, and challenged the notion that we have erased the stain of racism from our 'midst. What will it take to do that? In his words, "All we have to do really is to treat each other decently."

First Person Singular: John Hope Franklin, January 26, 2010
This review is from: First Person Singular: John Hope Franklin (DVD)
I found this video very informative of the life and work of John Hope Franklin. I never knew anything about him before watching this, except that he had passed away, along with a number of other great contributors to society, in 2009. I have another person form an older generation to admire now.
