Thank You, Dr. Schalk!,
By Karen Bocko (Fairborn, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: First Person Singular : Reflections on Worship, Liturgy, and Children (Paperback)
This is a MUST-READ for Christians who love liturgical worship and solid hymnody but are being trampled by the masses clamoring towards those contemporary, feel-good worship services and easy-to-learn songs! Dr. Schalk is to be commended for not only clearly exposing the fallacies of this ever-growing trend but for also providing solid recommendations to help congregations return to their proven, liturgical roots. The book courageously addresses additional worship topics like church attire and children's sermons which are typically avoided in order not to offend the majority. But Dr. Schalk's public stance of these volatile subjects opens the doors of opportunity for the rest of us "liturgy-loving traditionalists" whose voices are being drowned out. This book is an easy-read that is divided into short, creatively-titled sections. It would be a unique resource for adult Bible study - sure to promote lively conversation!
