5.0 out of 5 stars Great pump for a great price!
I got this pump over two years ago. I used it for a year with my first daughter and I've now used it for four months with my second daughter. So for durability alone I give it five stars.

It pumps relatively quickly. I can pump both sides in less than 20 minutes and the amount I get just depends on how full I am.

It is a bit noisy, but it's quiter...

1.0 out of 5 stars this pump sucks, and not the way it should
i got this pump as a gift for my baby shower. it was not the one i wanted but the one i got. i tried to pump after i was engorged. it sucked like 15 mls after 15 minutes. there was more milk on my clothes and breast than there was in the bottle. i set the pump to suck at the highest setting and still nothing. it is really loud, too. my dogs went nuts at the sound...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great pump for a great price!, May 28, 2006
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I got this pump over two years ago. I used it for a year with my first daughter and I've now used it for four months with my second daughter. So for durability alone I give it five stars.

It pumps relatively quickly. I can pump both sides in less than 20 minutes and the amount I get just depends on how full I am.

It is a bit noisy, but it's quiter if you keep the cover of the case down and if you need it really quiet - throw a blanket over the top.

I use mine almost exclusively at home so it's super convenient for that, I've taken it with me on one or two occassions to use while I was going to be away from my daughter for an extended period of time, and it's kind of big and bulky for that purpose. Though the case it comes in can easily be hung on a purse hook in a bathroom stall and the tubing is long enough that you could use while sitting down (though I prefer to use a handicap stall and just stand by the door) - OH what the other bathroom users must think! :-)

I'm getting ready to go on a trip for five days and I'm planning on packing this pump in my suitcase and buying a smaller pump to take with me on the plane - this one is just too big to bring on the plane and I'm sure that I could really freak some people out carrying a big black case into the bathroom and then turning it on!

AND First Years customer service is really great. I needed a replacement part after about six months of use and they were happy to send it out to me free of charge.

I would definitely buy this pump again, though if you are pumping at work or just really need the extra ten minutes I suggest you get a DOUBLE breast pump. Twenty minutes of pumping is no big deal a couple times a week, but a couple times of day would be really inconvenient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Was good enough for me, April 3, 2006
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
This pump is obviously not the top of the line but it did what i needed to do. I only pumped when I was engorged so at the most it was used once a day. I also realized that one side was easier to pump than the other. so in 5 minutes I could fill a bottle on the one side and it took longer on the other with the same setting. I also did not have to use it at full power. I gave it 4 stars because of the motor sound. It was louder than I expected but for the price of the pump and what I needed it for I would recommend it to someone who would not have to depend on it every day for feeding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pump with GREAT price, May 4, 2006
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I wanted to find a pump that was great in price and product and this one worked for me. I returned to work when my son was four months and wanted to continue to nurse him. My first two/three weeks back to work was trying as it would take 45 minutes to pump a four oz bottle. With patience and time that time began to speed up while I began pumping twice that amount. I can now pump both sides within 15 minutes. I wanted a dual pump but settled on this one because of the cost. I knew that once I opened it there was no returns. I'm now into five months of pumping and all is well. There is two negatives that I hope they will change in the future. The pump is louder than I expected. Place a cloth over the battery portion to quiet it down. The case would be nice if it were a little smaller maybe more narrow as oppose to being to wide. I think this is a great pump with a great price if you plan on nursing up until the age of 15 months. Anything over that you may as well spend the money on a double pump. Or buy a double pump if you pump exclusively.

do not buy this pump!!!! if you do, it is at your own expense.

i talked to a lactation consultant in my area and she told me what i had already figured out. this pump sucks, and not in a good way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money, May 20, 2006
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I had purchased a hand pump. They are fine if you need to pump occassionally. I needed one for everyday use. I thought it was expensive but it was so worth it! I found it easy to use. It worked fast and my hand didn't hurt like the hand pump. It was easy to take to work.It was easy to clean and I would highly recommend this one.If I had to buy another one I would get the double one for quicker pumpimg time.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for the money, August 6, 2008
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I got this pump after a friend had used it. I use it all the time and neither of us has had any problems with it. It is a bit loud, but just close the cover or put a pillow over it and it's not that bad. I first had a medula hospital grade pump, and this pump pumps my milk just the same. I only pump for 15-20 mins total. The suctions did hurt at first but after a few uses it doesn't hurt at all anymore. I have to use it on the highest setting but that was the same for the other pump I had.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, July 20, 2009
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
GREAT PUMP!! No problems for me, of course at first it hurts a little, and you might get milk all over, but after just one or two times, it's really easy, I could pump out a 4oz in less than 5 minutes. I would say to the others that gave this product a bad review: maybe just a little more practice and reading the instruction manual a little better, and it would have been Great for you too. No need in spending lot's of money for an expensive pump when this one can do the job just the same, if not better!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it, February 12, 2008

This pump worked for me. I was comfortable using it, because with the range of settings I could find a place that was comfortable for me. The motor is somewhat loud, however I found that if I closed the lid of the machine while I used it, it was much quieter. I also liked the price compared to a $200 machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars spend a little more, save your breasts!, July 16, 2008

This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
i am usually one of those people who thinks that just because something is less expensive doesn't mean it is worse than something else. But I was wrong with this breast pump. First off, it is so loud, I have actually woken my baby in the night when i have used it and he is a very good sleeper. Also, it is super bulky- it is a big case to drag along everywhere on top of all the other things you have to carry around. Third, it is PAINFUL to pump! OMG it hurts! if you put on low setting, you never get milk so you have to turn it up and then it is painful. it has ridged suction cup and every time i have marks on my breast for up to an hour after. i have actually chosen engorgement over this pump before and have also woken my son to have him feed to relieve me instead. if you can't afford a fancy eletric one- go with a manual- i got one and it is much less painful!

1.0 out of 5 stars IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!!!!!, December 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The First Years Premium Single Electric Breast Pump (Baby Product)
DO NOT ORDER!!! PLEASE READ FIRST. I know what you might be thinking... Reading reviews and thinking that its not that bad of a product. When we read them we noticed that the product either worked or was defective but that if the product worked it was good. Now we are out $50. So as most women who are having a baby do I prepared and ordered all my baby stuff a little early and the pump was a part of that order (about 60 days from my due date). I was unable to test it obviously because I hadn't had the baby yet and my milk wasn't in. So when it came time to use the pump it fizzled out and broke leaving burn marks in the suction tube! FIRST TIME I WENT TO USE IT. We immediately called the company to request a refund and the asked us to submit an email. Ok, no problem right? So we submit the email request. The company never responded over a period of two weeks. We called to see what was going on and the lady on the phone told us we could not have a refund NO MATTER WHAT since we were over the 30 day from purchase period. It was exactly 49 days from the time we ordered it to the time we made the request. REALLY? COME ON... REALLY? She told us that we should have tested the product as soon as we got it... to which our response was that wouldn't have been possible since we had no breasts availible that had milk in them :) She said "that is irrelivant to our company's policy". So for being responsible adults and ordering baby stuff a little bit early to be prepared we got stuck with a broken pump. It didn't matter at all to the company that they had sold a product that was completely defective and actually could have hurt someone considering the look of those burn marks. Judging by other reviews on this product it looks like a high number of them are defective and don't work at all, I would venture to guess at least 10% of all pumps from this company. That combined with the aweful/upsetting level of customer service given and complete lack of caring would make it an easy decision to not buy this product. TRUST US GET ONE WITH BETTER REVIEWS, IT WILL BE WORTH THE EXTRA $20. DO NOT BUY "The First Years" Products.
