Raw data about R&B in 1953, March 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: First Pressings: The History of Rhythm & Blues Vol.3 : 1953 (Paperback)
This paperback is a collection of articles, news stories, advertisements, new record announcements, etc. about R&B and gospel music in 1953. The data is arranged chronologically and presented without comment or summary. Thankfully, there is at least an index at the back that lists page references for given artists, radio stations and record labels. This content should probably be treated as raw data for historians and hard core 50's music lovers. If you are willing to wade through the enormous amount of promotional material included, you will find gems of information about artists, records and labels that you are unlikely to obtain elsewhere. If you find this book useful, you will want to buy the remainder of this 8 volume set.
