Following each story is a list of vocabulary words, some phrases and their corresponding English translations.

I'm a complete beginner so these very simple stories are great for analyzing basic sentence structure even though the topics may seem very childish.

I found something odd in the middle of the book, something weird must have happened at the printer- in the center of this book is another book!

This is a lovely short booklet containing 50 pages of helpful light-hearted brief stories in Russian and English. Each Russian story of one or two pages is laid out thoughtfully with the Russian on the left side of the page and the corresponding English translation on the right side of the page. Following each story is a list of vocabulary words, some phrases and their corresponding English translations. Even though the booklet is probably geared toward a younger reader, as a middle-aged student just embarking upon learning Russian, I found this book delightful and not at all intimidating.

I love this book. I studied Russian many years ago but have forgotten most of it. I am getting involved again via "Russian for beginners" type books. This book is very helpful. Only one problem, I think the Russian words should have been accented.

This book really is as advertised--a beginner's reader in Russian. A lot of "first readers" tend to get a little too advanced, but this one is perfect for those who have just a little bit of skill in the language. There are very short stories in the book using basic vocabulary and grammar structure, and at the end of each story there is a glossary of relevant vocabulary. If you're just beginning to read Russian, and want to see some vocabulary and grammar used in the context of actual writing, start here.

I was very disappointed when I received this book. It is only fifty pages afterall; but once I began reading, I couldn't believe how much I was learning. Vocabulary learned in context is easier to retain than just a list of words to memorize. That is why I am having so much trouble retaining vocabulary, especially verbs, in my Russian lessons online. I highly recommend this book to the beginner.

This small book is a great starter for reading russian. Not only does it have the texts side by side but also a nice list of the words in the stories along with some additional vocabulary after each story. The book itself is a bit surprising as it is so small in size but packed full of learning!

I know it's only $10 but you only get 7 very short stories for the price. That said, the concept of pages that face each other in 2 languages is very useful for the novice reader. Finally, the Amazon website indicates that audio files of the stories are available online for free, but the free files are for another book by the same authors. This book costs $.99 a story to download.
