About our Early Result Pregnancy Test

With First to Detect Technology, only First Response captures scant amounts of pregnancy hormones—6 days sooner than your missed period, no other test can do that.

Early Pregnancy Detection Matters

The first few weeks of pregnancy are critical to fetal development, so early prenatal care is important to healthy birth weight and baby survival. The sooner you know you’re pregnant, the sooner you can begin making healthy pregnancy choices for yourself and your baby that include diet, nutrition and limiting your exposure to hazards.

Things to Know About Testing Early

Some pregnant women may not have detectable amounts of the pregnancy hormone in their urine on the day they use the test. The amount of pregnancy hormone increases as pregnancy progresses. In laboratory testing, First Response detected the pregnancy hormone levels in 76% of pregnant women 5 days before their expected period, in 96% of pregnant women 4 days before their expected period, in >99% of pregnant women 3 days before their expected period, in >99% of pregnant women 2 days before their expected period, in >99% of pregnant women 1 day before their expected period and in >99% of pregnant women on the day of their expected period.

I know the box says you can get a positive up to 5 days before your missed period, but everyone needs to understand that you CANNOT get a positive until after implantation occurs. This might happen early... but it also might not. Read the directions and the percentage of women who actually get a positive 5 or even 4 days early. I didn't get a positive with my son until AFTER I was a day late and with my daughter it was only 1 day early.

I bought these tests because most of the reviews and the manufacturer themselves claim that they are "the most sensitive on the market." I have to COMPLETELY disagree. I took this test a day before my missed period (NEGATIVE), the day of my missed period (NEGATIVE), two days after my missed period (NEGATIVE), and three days after my missed period (NEGATIVE).

I'm already a mom and have been pregnant before, and suspecting that I indeed was again, I decided to try a different test, E.P.T, on the third day of my missed period (immediately after I got the negative from the First Response). I got a VERY faint plus sign using the E.P.T., but a plus sign nonetheless (POSITIVE). To confirm, I tested the next morning with two other brands (ClearBlue and Generic), and also got positive results (this time much clearer and more obvious). For kicks, I tested with another First Response at the same time as I tested with the ClearBlue and Generic, and was appalled to see that it was still negative and obviously incorrect at this point.

I am fairly well educated on the subject of pregnancy and pregnancy testing, and I know all about implantation and the reasons why a pregnancy test can be negative for a few days after a missed period before it turns positive. I understand that first of the morning urine has the highest levels of HCG, and always made sure to test first thing in the morning. What I will never understand is why a test that is supposed to be so "ultra sensitive" didn't pick up on my pregnancy when literally every other test did. I finally got the FAINTEST positive on the First Response when I used the last test I had this morning, 5 days past my expected period. Bizarre.

I'm just glad that there are other brands out there that could easily confirm my suspicions, despite spending a small fortune on pregnancy tests. :-)

This was the first stick to reveal a positive last month. We were REALLY disappointed when the results became negative two days later, but a blood test confirmed that there HAD been hcg in my system, and it was disappearing due to chemical pregnancy / early miscarriage. These are well-tested sticks (I've read all of the research, including some original studies not sponsored by the company)... They don't give false positives. They do detect very, very, early pregnancies. 30-50% of all very early pregnancies miscarry-- often before a traditional pee stick would even show positive. This stick will catch those early but doomed pregnancies that just barely implanted in the uterus, but then fail a few days later. Only test early if you can handle the ambiguity and heartache of knowing you were barely pregnant but lost it. Otherwise, wait until you've missed your period, and confirm with a lab blood test right away. My heart aches for the folks who think they got false positives, but most likely, they DID have hcg in their systems, tested when the levels were BARELY high enough to trigger a line on this test, and then lost the pregnancy very shortly afterwards. If you're neurotic like me and simply must KNOW, then this is the stick to get. But knowing early is a double-edged sword.

We saw a faint line and went the Hospital and got a quantitative HCG blood draw 3 hours later, which showed HCG at 7.

Extremely sensitive and accurate test.

Good test, but don't use it too early! I tested at 9dpo and it was negative. Still no period for a few days and tested again at 12dpo and got my very first positive ever!! Also used a Clearblue easy test on the same day and the positive was much fainter than the first response. Good Luck!

These used to be my gold standard. I'm an infertility patient and have taken a test or two or 18374627462 in my lifetime. If I was not pregnant, they were stark white. Painfully white. 1 hour, 2 hours, 10 weeks later, the test is still white.
They must have changed the test. I'll tell you why.
I tested 4 days before my period (11dpo). It was negative, but a few minutes after the allotted time, there was a faint line. I knew better than to believe that was a positive, but being FRER, who've never had evap lines, I was a little excited. I tested again a few hours later. Same thing. The next day, I tested with a NEW box, that I had on hand from a previous cycle.
The line was pink in the allotted time!!! I was thrilled!!!!
I had a beta drawn two hours later, and it was <1. Which is a negative.
I was furious. Just for kicks, and because I'm crazy, I had my husband pee on one because they threw a free one in the box.
HIS WAS POSITIVE TOO!
My heart was broken. These tests are clearly different than what they previously used. I can tell because a shadow of a line pops up and disappears before you get your final results. They NEVER used to do that.
Do not spend a dime on these tests. They clearly changed the product to an inferior test strip, and have the nerve to charge the same amount of money. These are not cheap.
If I've saved any of you from heartbreak than this review was worth it.
