From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 3-- This oversized science book has 21 simple experiments that explore light and color, electricity, music, magnets, weather, flight, and fingerprints. It includes how to make a barometer, a glider, and a volcano. Enticing full-color photographs show the supplies/equipment needed and each step of the project. The instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. Brief explanations of scientific principles and safety precautions are incorporated within the text. There is also a photographic table of contents as well as a "how to use this book" section. There are a few problems. The explanations of scientific principles are sketchy or lacking in many of the activities, such as the magnet experiments. The model volcano can be dangerous since a bottle filled with hot water is lifted by a string handle into another bottle of water. There is no index or glossary. The "Fun with Science" series (Warwick) and "Science Fun" series (Messner) discuss the principles demonstrated by their experiments and feature children of different cultures in their illustrations. --Renee Blumenkrantz, Davis Community Library, Bethesda, MD
