The book is a good read and helps you understand the epistles in more depth. It is not overt academic to the poin that you need a Devon dictionary just to figure out hat they are talking about. It is vey straightforward

1 of 4 people found the following review helpful By John D. White on April 2, 2007
Format: Hardcover
The epistles of John are not as well known as some other literature in the New Testament. Sadly!! This is a great resource for the pastor who wants to provide a sermon series on the neglected Johannine epistles. This is a model commentary on 1, 2, and 3 John and may be used by the pastor in a way that fulfills the purpose and intent of the Interpretation commentary series. I recommend this book highly. D. Moody Smith has written a book on the three Johannine letters marked by clarity and interpretive acumen. I found it to be extremely helpful in preparing both Sunday School lessons and sermons on these little known letters.
