5.0 out of 5 stars My First Spanish Word Boox
I was simply amazed at how well this book was done. Each word is depicted using a high-quality, colorful, and eye catching photo and is captioned in both Spanish and English. This book is excellent for very young children (and children and adults of all ages) who are learning English and/or Spanish. It covers everything from parts of the body, to actions (dancing,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
This book has so many outdated pictures. My 2 1/2 year old didn't even know what some of them were, and argued with me when I tried to name them. There are also WAY too many pictures scattered around on each page. I gave this one away. This book needs a makeover!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for ALL Ages!, October 9, 2003

I used this book to help my daughter learn a multitude of words in English and ASL signs when she was *very* young. Now that she's a preschooler, we're looking at it again from the Spanish perspective. And even though I am fluent in Spanish, I learned a *lot* of very specific vocaublary from this book (the names of all different kinds of vehicles and tools, for instance). I would recommend this book not only for parents of very young children, but also for students of the Spanish language of *any* age, as a vocabulary builder. If I were teaching a high school language class, I would want to copy pages out of this book, blank out the names, and challenge students to label each picture. What a great resource!!

This book has high-quality photos of each word. Unlike other bilingual books, the pictures are actual photos instead of drawn. Much easier for my child to "get it". The English/Spanish are included next to each picture. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to Spanish curriculum- or any class!, December 30, 2005

This review is from: My First Spanish Word Book / Mi Primer Libro De Palabras EnEspaƱol (Spanish Edition) (Hardcover)
I use this book in all my Spanish classes, ages 3 to 18, to build vocabulary. It has photos of items, so there's no guessing as to what the vocabulary is about - it's large enough to hold at the front of the classroom (it's not a huge room, but you get the idea) and point as we repeat the words and then to quiz the students, or drill one at a time. A great resource to boost your child's vocabulary or review items from a workbook or other program - the only drawback is there's no phonetic spelling and no CD, so if you're not sure on pronunciation, that may be something to think about.

Excellent resourses for easily learning Spanish through colorful illistrations. Toddlers and older kids can benefit greatly from this book. As far as bilingual books go, this one and Drum, Chavi, Drum!/Toca, Chavi, Toca! are the ones that my children love most. When kids love a book and can't put it down, that's a great sign that they will learn Spanish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for kids and grown ups, September 22, 2005
This review is from: My First Spanish Word Book / Mi Primer Libro De Palabras EnEspaƱol (Spanish Edition) (Hardcover)
Even after years of academic Spanish, I have turned to this book when at a loss for a word. My kids love it and ask to read it all of the time! There is so much in terms of photos and words that we usually just go through a few pages at a time and leave a bookmark. It helps to know a bit about pronunciation since this book doens't provide a "dummies" guide like the Dora englis/spanish books that my kids also love. This is by far the most comprehensive that I have seen. Excellent for the family room or coffee table!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Little Book!, August 31, 2005
This review is from: My First Spanish Word Book / Mi Primer Libro De Palabras EnEspaƱol (Spanish Edition) (Hardcover)
Well, not so "little"! It's a thin book, but a full 10" x 13". Nice big pages for lots of pictures!

Words are categorized so that all the words on the 2 pages in front of you are related...body parts, things around the house, things at the grocery, etc. 30 different categories of words in all with over a 1,000 words total (check out the table of contents). The pictures are outstanding. A very nice collection for learning new spanish words.

This book has been my 2 year old daughter's favorite book for the last six months. The pictures are engaging, and grouped in categories that make sense.

She's spent hours reviewing this large, well-made book. She's progressed from being able to point to photos of things when asked, to saying the names of them herself, or asking what the photo is. I've learned a lot of Spanish as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars For adults also, November 7, 2001

I love this book! I got this book for my 2 year-old, but I find that I am using it myself. I wish I had this book when I was learning Spanish prior to my living in Mexico. I am a visual person and this type of book is perfect for learning vocabulary. I am buying this book for my 13 year-old nephew for his Spanish class.

This is a wonderfully colorful and fun book. My newborn is going to love learning Spanish with this book, so will I! The photographs are of real things -- not drawings, so children can relate directly to the words and pictures. It is a large and sturdy hardcover so it will withstand tiny fingers turning from page to page. If you buy only one book to introduce the language to your youngster, make it this one.
