5.0 out of 5 stars like Tullamore Dew
I've been collecting Irish Traditional CDs since the beginning of the Summer and I just got this based on Earle Kitchner's review in the Irish Echo. It really doesn't get any better than this. The clarity, the tempos, the swing, the pure naturalness--pour me another. I also greatly appreciated the inclusion of Mick Maloney's informative essay on Sligo Fiddling.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Playing but Not My Thing

Like the album overall but truthfully irish traditional is not my thing and
after a while this all starts to sound the same. Brian Conway is very gifted and can play at warp speed and if you're into this type of music you will be very happy with this album. I think I'll save my money next time.

Great tunes, great style, you would have to be a fool not to buy this album. This recording is really enjoyable to listen to because of the richness in the execution of the tunes. And talk about feeling! Wow.

This is a great CD, especially if you enjoy traditional Irish music. It is fast paced without being frantic. The liner notes are exceptional.

When I go home after a busy day and I want to feel happy, I put on Brian Conway's "First Through the Gate." It is simply beautiful. What wonderful music to enjoy in the peaceful surroundings of home, away from the frenetic pace of our modern world. And my kids love it, too; they dance to it, they twirl to it. Thank you, Brian Conway, for such a delightful CD.
