More About the Author

Who am I? I'm a first-time mom who could not have been any more clueless about having a baby. Looking back, I pretty much knew the tape on the diaper goes from the back to the front. That's about it. Of course, I read books about healthy eating and pregnancy, but I never thought about birth and beyond. While talking to a mom about my worries over being pregnant, she replied: "Don't worry about the pregnancy part. Your body will take care of that. Worry about after the baby comes. Nothing prepares you for that!"

It hit me like a ton of bricks. So wrapped up with the pregnancy and designing the nursery I had not even thought of what would happen once the baby arrived. I began my quest for information as I talked to my friends and family who had children. What I learned from our talks helped prepare me for the birth and life with a baby.

This information was so useful I thought about passing it on to my girlfriends who had not had a baby yet. That's when I decided to write a book containing this information, along with what I experienced. First-Time Mom discusses what I learned about labor, delivery and life with a baby for the first six months. It also includes tips, hints, suggestions, recommendations, experiences, and the humor in being a first-time mom. I also included a section in the back of the book called My Book of Lists. This part offers various detailed checklists to help a first-time mom prepare for baby's arrival.

Good luck and enjoy being a first-time mom!

Best Wishes,
Wendy Beahn

I owe Wendy Beahn, the author of this book, a huge thank you for having written this. At 36 weeks of pregnancy, I have read just about every book on pregnancy and childbirth but I felt that nothing I had read had prepared me for the realities of what REALLY to expect during labor and after I give birth. After reading Wendy's book, I was so relieved in that I know what to expect. Wendy tells it like it is; her honest and forthright approach will be appreciated by anyone who reads this book. The checklists and summaries at the end of each chapter are indispensable. This book is an incredible resource, and enjoyable reading. I could not put it down once I started reading it. Kudos to Wendy Beahn for writing a book with a fresh approach. This book made me laugh and cry alternately, and Wendy Beahn is the girlfriend that all of us pregnant women wish we had - the one who truly tells it like it is. If you are pregnant or even thinking about having a child, DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS INCREDIBLE BOOK!!! It should be required reading for fathers as well!

First Time Mom was the BEST book I read during my pregnancy. It was honest, entertaining and informative. At one point or another, all the other pregnancy books I read gave me some level or paranoia. Not this book! It actually got me excited me about going into labor and all the amazing moments that led up to the birth of my son. When I returned home from the hospital, I went back to re-read certain chapters to help me with breast feeding, sleeping, etc. and remind myself that I wasn't alone in this journey.

Having a baby is the most amazing experience a mother can have and this book translated those emotions wonderfully. I plan to re-read now that I am pregnant again!

First Time Mom was exactly what I needed! We are expecting our first child in March, and I am reading everything I can get my hands on. The author's use of humor really made the reading quick, easy, and fun. I couldn't put it down! My husband is now reading it as well!
While most books talk only about the pregnancy (which is very helpful), I need to think ahead to when the baby is here so that I don't lose it when he or she arrives. The summaries at the end of the chapters and the lists in the back of the book provide insight that I would have never thought of. Being a 'list person' myself, this is perfect!...

This book helped me through what could have been an unbearable time in the hospital. Even though I ended up having a cesarean delivery, this book really helped see what labor and delivery is, as well as what to expect when I got home. I applaud the author on her honesty and candidness. She really made labor and delivery bearable and VERY enjoyable to read about. The other books out there are too technical, this one is easy to read and understand. She offers fantastic tips throughout the chapters making it easy to use for reference later. I even recommended this book to my sister who gave birth before reading this book...she too found it very informative and fun to read. We would like to see another book from this author in terms of what a first time mom should expect the first year.

Being pregnant for the 1st time, I am reading all kinds of pregnancy and baby books. This book is absolutely the best! I like it because it is written in such a way that the reader feels the author is telling a story to you as you are sitting across from her at a coffee shop! It is very realistic, down-to-earth and funny!
I really like the checklists she provides at the end of the book. I've already put them into use!
This is the first book I've seen that really gives you the "low down" on what happens, almost minute by minute!!
Thank you Wendy Beahn for providing a great resource, a fun book to read and a valuable lesson on what is soon to come for me!

Wendy Beahn's First Time Mom is a solidly written and thoroughly "reader friendly" resource for expectant and new mothers, packed cover to cover with what every woman should know about labor, childbirth, and the first six months of raising a newborn. Written in down-to-earth terms, addressing everything from minor discomfort to potentially life-threatening difficulties, First Time Mom is very highly recommended reading for all new parents and parents-to-be regardless of gender -- because first-time husbands and involved fathers need to know the basics of what to do as well!

I found this book at my local library and kept it out for two months. The advice was amazing and real. This is a must read for every first time mom. The lists at the back were a great way to get organized before the big day.
