Foreword

"Most of us have fond memories of our mothers or grandmothers in the kitchen making our favorite fresh baked cookies, cakes and breads. In my recent book, Promise Me, I wrote about a mother baking “Buttermilk Blueberry Muffins,” a family favorite and Christmas tradition for herself and her young daughter. After coming up with this idea, I asked Shawn to come up a recipe for these muffins that I could share with my readers that would help them further connect with the story. The recipe he and his fellow cookbook author created was exactly what I was looking for. This new bake book will give you the knowledge that allows you to not only duplicate your family favorites, but also the ability to create your own recipes and future favorites."

-Richard Paul Evans, #1 New York Times Bestselling author of The Christmas Box and The Walk series

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly a great book for ALL April 4, 2013
By Lori S
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is very well written, and provides everything you didn't even know you should have asked. it covers what you need, what can or can not be used as a substitute (ingredient or utensils), why you need an ingredient and then continues to explain how the ingredient provides the taste and/or texture to your bake good. Best of all, lots of pictures! I am a visual person and when it comes to cooking, I need to know what the end product should look like. But the photos cover everything, there is no guessing what is being talked about.

2.0 out of 5 stars needs more substance January 26, 2013

Personally, I felt the book focused too much on equipment and utensils in the kitchen. And most of the information read as if it were pulled in from another of the First Timer books.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you're a Beginner; You Just Got Lucky December 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you're a first timer, or just someone who just wants to brush up on the basics; you'll find this book informative and enjoyable. The book, The First Timer's Guide to Cakes (First Timer's Baking), answers the very questions you want to ask, and the explanations are interesting and informative. The Author has written a series of these books for 'First Timers', so consider treating yourself to the other books, too.

Books in a series like this, tend to overlap or 'lead in' to the next book and topic, and they help form a more secure foundation for understanding the more advanced books as they come along.

Enjoy!!! This is an easy way to gain confidence, and enjoy cooking & baking, as you learn.
