5.0 out of 5 stars A book for ALL kids to get before they ski or snowboard (and even after they do!), February 26, 2010

This review is from: First Tracks (Hardcover)
First Tracks is a book that all parents who plan on teaching their kids the life on the snow--skiing or snowboarding should have.

How do I know you ask? I have a kid and she's only 6 and I've been skiing my entire life.

It's a passion for me and I hope it will be for my daughter.

This great book has already made that even more likely to become a reality for our family.

My daughter hasn't had her first day on the snow yet, but will soon. Despite my best attempts to convince her to use two skis, just like dad (old school-two planker) she has already decided for herself that she's a snowboarder! The reason being one of the kid characters in the book, is a kid named JAY. JAY is one cool dude. JAY doesn't say much, but he can schred it with best of them on a snowboard!

The book is a well written, funny and greatly illustrated tale of two kids on their first ski trip. JAY has a sister named SUZIE (Suzie ski's) and when they both head off on their first ski trip with mom and dad your kid will love the story and pictures. What happens on real ski trips is what happens to JAY and SUZIE. I've been on more than a few ski trips, as a kid, an adult and with family and friends. I even lived at a ski resort once and was a "ski bum". Both kids and parents will enjoy this book.

For a long time FIRST TRACKS was the book of choice for my daughter to read before hitting the sack each night. I bet she dreamed of snow because of how much she loved this book.

I'll keep trying to get her onto skis - instead of a snowboard but I think I may lose that battle because of a little kid name JAY and his sister SUZIE. Never mind the "The Flying Tomato" Sean White!

When a kid learns that skiing fast means "making french fries" and having a "pizza" means making a snowplow, you can't miss!

When JAY catches some air on his board an SUZIE makes her first turns, your kids will laugh and smile.

Get this book for your kid-they'll love it! They'll also end up loving skiing/snowboarding for life.

Thanks Johnny and Jeff - one great book for kids and parents!

My kid "The Flying Soph-in-nator" will be telling Sean White (The Flying Tomato) to move over very soon--thanks to you guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific, March 19, 2009
This review is from: First Tracks (Hardcover)
I ordered this book too late for our first family ski vacation. We just returned and were thrilled to read this book. My daughter, who just turned 6, enjoyed "reminiscing" about her ski school week with this charming book. We had to laugh - I guess "pizza" (for snowplow wedge) and "french fries" (for parallel) are common ski school terms! If you are planning a ski vacation with the kids, this book is a "must."

A Kid's Review
This review is from: First Tracks (Hardcover)
I'm an eleven year old girl and I live in a ski resort. The ski resort is Aspen/Snowmass. It is a wonderful and beautiful place to live and vacation. I just bought and finished reading this book. Suzie Shane (main character) reminded me of the first time that i went skiing and how nervous I was. It was very very scary! It was very funny to see how other kids feel the first time they go skiing. I would recommend this book for all beginer skiers of all ages. If your like me, you'll like (love) this book too!
