Good concept for an anthology, February 23, 2003
This review is from: First Voyages (Paperback)
This anthology collects the first published stories of writers who would later go on to be among the most celebrated names in science fiction. Some authors, such as Lester del Rey and Theodore Sturgeon, improved greatly later to judge from their sub-standard initial offerings. AE Van Vogt's inexplicably beloved "Black Destroyer" is also anthologized here yet again. Yet these and a few other disappointments are offset by some remarkable stories from Zenna Henderson, Algis Budrys, Philip K. Dick, Avram Davidson, JG Ballard, and others.
