First In War [Library Binding]

John Rosenberg (Author)

Book Description

April 1, 1998
Chronicles George Washington's role in the American Revolution, from his appointment as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army to the British surrender at Yorktown and his famous farewell address.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up-Washington's life and career from 1775, when he was elected commander in chief, to December 1783, when he resigned from his military duties, are covered in this second volume of a three-part fictionalized series. As he did in Young George Washington, Rosenburg demonstrates impressive background research and quotes primary sources throughout the novel. While these quotes enliven the text when they appear, they don't compensate for the often wooden prose or the sometimes stilted fictionalized dialogue. Although the maps, timeline, and suggestions for further research will be of use to students investigating this topic, additional resources would be needed to produce a well-documented report, and the book isn't likely to attract fans of historical fiction.
