The heat of Louisiana awakens passions in this erotic film,
By
This review is from: The First 9 1/2 Weeks (DVD)
"The First 9 ½ Weeks" was made after the original and its sequel. The film is about a New York investment broker who goes to Louisiana on a business trip but develops a relationship with his client's wife. Although he is hesitant at first, he develops a passionate bond to her. But the story is not a fairy tale and the head games the couple created are bound to change him forever.
I am not entirely sure if "The First 9 ½ Weeks" is a true prequel. Although the investment broker has some resemblance to our favorite control freak from "9 ½ Weeks," his name is Matt Wade, not John Grey. As the first film takes place in the mid-1980s, technical details such as the modern cars, make it implausible that this is a younger John. Putting that aside, the story does show how a romantic guy is transformed into someone cold, giving insight into how John may have gotten the way he is in the other films. It is likely that many fans of the original film will dismiss this movie with the idea it doesn't compare to the original. Nonetheless, it is an entertaining movie with some of the same erotic flavor of the other films.

An excellent example of Erotic Cinema in its earlier stages. A blend of romance and kinky.
