5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Read, July 24, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: First White Frost (Paperback)
I had to read this for an ethics class. I was appalled, heart sick, I wept. The violation of human rights by a country founded on 'freedom and liberty for all' shamed me. What is even worse is the knowledge that the lies and deceit continue. This should be required reading for every High School student. Homer Noley is a Native American (Choctaw) United Methodist Pastor, a graduate of The St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. He sets down the history of native people from 1492 to 1988 with a sweeping story of evangelism in general and an emphasis on the Methodist influence. His descriptions were not embellished or dramatized, they didn't need to be. He simply stated the facts, but it was still difficult reading. Difficult because of the pain that it caused my heart. Other denominations were also involved in taking Christ to the nations, but their story, for the most part, is not covered here. After reading this, I can't even begin to imagine why a person of native heritage would even entertain listening to some white preacher speak of a gospel of love and peace. Not that the native people don't appreciate love and peace, it is just such a hypocritical message coming from the white race. And truth be told, it is still a difficult sell.
