Editorial Reviews

Without the awesome power of the atomic bomb, the United States could very well suffer defeat by the ruthless Japanese Imperial forces. But the secret of the atomic bomb rests with one man, and he is locked away in a Japanese prison camp! The incredible plan to arrange his escape makes for heart-stopping action and suspense. When it is learned that American atomic physicist, Louise Jardine (Marc Cramer) is being held by the Japanese, the government enlists Major Ross (Tom Neal) to infiltrate the enemy camp and help Jardine escape. To accomplish this, Ross undergoes unalterable plastic surgery to appear oriental and enter the camp as a Japanese officer. To complicate matters, Ross discovers that his pre-war finacee is interned at the same camp and doesn't recognize him! Starring Tom Neal, Keye Luke and Leonard Strong. From the RKO Collection.

old vhs stacks at my library. It was made in 1945 & seemed to have an inking of Hiroshima which was perhaps tacked on the end.
An atomic scientist is captured by the Japanese & interred at a concentration camp 20 miles outside of Tokyo. The Japanese do not know of his importance. So the United States sends an Army aviator with intimate knowledge of Japanese language & customs to infiltrate & help him escape. He is given an excellent plastic sugery face lift so he can fit in as a Japanese soldier.
However, his girlfriend who had been presumed dead, is also a prisoner at this camp. What are the odds. He can't tell her & she's become buddies with the scientist. She doesn't recognize him & at first depises him because he is the enemy to her. Another, in this festival of coincidences, His old college buddy from the 30's is the commandant of the camp. He is recognized & then the fireworks begin. It's an interesting movie for it's time demonizing the Japanese in time of war. It is only on vhs & Turner shows it from time to time. You can buy it used or rent it.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE YANKS DON'T WIN THIS ONE! April 21, 2005
Format:VHS Tape
This is an excellent movie. The story of an American going behind enemy lines. The "love" of his life is persumed dead, but finds out she is still alive. She doesn't recognize him because he has "a new face". Story line is great. It has a sad ending.
