5.0 out of 5 stars A very good first step
This book gave a lot of good information and insight on things to ask. I highly recommend it - not just for the patient but for the family too.

2.0 out of 5 stars INformative
Informative in a quick read format. Good for someone who knows absolutely nothing and doesn't want to be overwhelmed with info but wants to basically educate themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Many Have Cirrhosis, January 27, 2008
This review is from: The First Year: Cirrhosis: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed (Paperback)
This book is written for those who are newly diagnosed with cirrhosis as well as those who may be headed that way. It's also an excellent book for the family and other loved ones of the liver patient. Cirrhosis can be caused by hepatitis B, hepatitis C, autoimmune hepatitis, alcoholism, NASH, certain medications, and other diseases. This book is highly recommended for those who want to know more about what cirrhosis is, its symptoms, its prognosis, and what transplant entails.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very readable. Probably the best reference for a non-medical person, November 22, 2008

Note: This book is not written by a doctor.
This is both a good and a bad thing.
The good part is that it is readable. It is very informative.

It has many good points and seems well researched.

The author is a very good writer, and can guide us through the phases of Cirrhosis.

The bad part is that the book is not written by doctors -- so is not really a manual for medical diagnosis. It is not really a book for medical treatment.

Definitely seek the assistance of a Liver Specialist.

It is also written in 2006 -- so may not be current with the most recent medical treatments available.

Overall, this is a good book to have if you or a loved one is diagnosed with Cirrhosis.

This is a harsh dianosis. If you are struggling to make sense of it all. You want to know what to do or have a family member dealing with this and you want to understand the disease and what you can do to slow its progression this is the book for you. It is written so the layman can understand it and it comes all aspects of the disease. It truly does cover the first year after diagnosis.

Since I have been recently diagnosed with cirrhosis I found the book to be
excellent, positive and very informative, especially since there isn't
much information out there and I hadn't actually seen a Dr. an appointment
was made. I had several symptoms and I was able to be prepared for what
was ahead. Thankyou Mr Dickerson and I wish good health to you now & in the
future!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST-HAVE FOR LIVER PATIENTS!!, August 18, 2010

I bought this book after my first trip to the E.R. with symptoms of liver disease. It provides valuable info. in a calming, non-judgemental narrative. Many personal observations and common sense notes are backed up with research from expert medical professionals. When I purchased it, I hardly knew anything about liver problems. Now I feel much more informed about what to ask my doctors and it's my go-to guide for everyday questions.
