We love it, except...,

This lullaby player is wonderful. Our baby is 4 1/2 months, and we've had to go into her room several times/night to replace her pacifier for 4 months(didn't have the heart to let her cry it out). The lullaby player has helped us in teaching her to go to sleep on her own. She no longer has a pacifier in her crib. I wanted to use the rainfall or ocean sounds for white noise, but it turned out our baby liked the lullaby setting better. The voice activiation is why I bought it and why it works so well. We rarely go into her room at night now, because as soon as she cries, the player turns on. The only bad thing is a really bad thing. It just inhales the batteries. I assume it uses them so quick because it has to be on all night so the voice activation can be ready. But, we have to replace batteries AT LEAST one a week. This product would be perfect if it could be plugged in.

Soothing for baby (and tired parents!),

This is a great product. We've used it with our daughter (now 6 months old) since birth. The rain and ocean sounds are very nice. I don't like the music, but that's because I don't like the tinny, electronic sound of music, especially when trying to sleep. There's a timer switch, which is helpful if you want the machine to shut off automatiaclly. We never have been able to figure out the baby-movement-turn-on feature, but we don't care. The night-light feature is nice. The unit is compact and portable--easy to take on a trip if needed and easy to move from room to room. It's easy to attach and unattach to the crib, but is secure. Now that our duaghter sleeps in her own room, we hear the sounds through the montior at night--helpful to minimize the hum of the monitor and the "sleeping" noises our daughter makes (that don't require us to attend to her). Two compaints: the volume can be a bit finnicky (usually when the batteries are dying) and it eats batteries if you run the unit all night long (we live on a busy road and it helps dampen traffic noise in our daughter's room). For obvious reasons (it's designed to attach to a crib rail and who'd want a cord within baby's reach?), there's no AC option. We have solved that problem by purchasing a battery charger (useful with a child anyway) and two sets of AAs, but it would be great to have something like this available in an affordable tabletop style (I can't seem to find an affordable one that will allow continuous play)) with a cord.

I have used this since my daughter was born, from her bassinet to her crib. She has been sleeping all night since she was 8 weeks old. She is now 15 months old and I still use it to put her to sleep and comfort her if she should wake up. It now sits on her dresser and I just use it from there.(she liked to mess with it too much as she got older). I have taken it with me on road trips and the sounds comfort her as if she was at home. I love this product and if I had to pick 5 of my favorites, it would be on top! Yeah, it eats batteries, I have to replace mine about every 3-4 weeks. But so what, she sleeps well and and goes to sleep on her own. And so what if the sounds are not perfect clarity, they work great as "white noise". I have even put it on a few extra times to put myself to sleep listening through the baby monitor. :)

MUST HAVE (to keep your sanity!),

If I could only have ONE item beyond the basics (diapers, wipes, etc...) it would be this wave machine. I would have paid $100+ for it, just because it was INVALUABLE for putting our baby to sleep. The repetitive sound of the waves was incredibly soothing and comforting to him as a newborn, and the effect was incredible. He would cry as he learned to put himself to sleep, but as soon as the waves came on, he stopped. Same thing if he woke up during the night & couldn't remember how to go back to sleep. We also took it with us when we travelled, and the familiar sound was comforting to him in a new environment. (Btw, hint to new parents: When you're traveling on the highway & the baby gets fussy, roll the window down a bit, and the sounds of the air has the same effect!) When you can't figure out WHAT TO DO to help the baby stop crying, turn on the Nature's Lullaby!

This little gadget has been really handy. We live in an urban area where noise is constantly waking up baby. The relaxing sounds this "thing" makes covers up a lot of those noises so that they don't wake baby up. I'm also able to snap the crib bar into the upright position now without startling my little girl. The lullably player offers a few choices of sounds. We like the ocean waves the best. The sound of the rain storm is also nice. (The lullaby tune and the heart beat sounds are a bit too mechanical and rigid sounding and don't really calm baby down.) I didn't have a problem with the batteries being used up quickly. I think they lasted about 2 weeks. (You have to make sure to turn the unit off during the day when you're not using it.) When I did have to change the batteries, though, I found it VERY difficult to get to the battery section. (I still haven't figured out how to get into that battery section to change the batteries) Another problem with this unit is that it's supposedly has the ability to turn itself off after 15 minutes. For some reason, mine stays on all night, though this really hasn't been a problem for us so far. The night light isn't really practical, either. When we check on baby at night, we find that it's easier and dimmer when we turn a light on in a neighboring room. Despite its problems, I found the unit very helpful. ...Now I just need to figure out how to change those batteries!

We originally had gotten a DEX Sound Sleeper as a baby gift for my daughter when she was born, my sister (a mother of four) got it for us because she said she swore by it. We (and our daughter) loved it, however, the volume button broke. I went to take it back (to Target) however, they no longer stocked them. So we got this Nature's Lullaby Player. The ocean and the rain noise were fine, however, the lullaby music was awful and sounded very mechanical. The volume adjuster was horrible. It was either too soft or too loud. We were not able to figure out how to use the voice activated feature and I really wanted something we could sit on a shelf and plug in. The Nature's Lullaby you just hang on the crib and have to worry about batteries. I have since been able to find the Dex Sound Sleeper online for $24.99 and will soon be taking the Nature's Lullaby back so we can have the Sound Sleeper for our daughter. There were many more features on the Sound Sleeper. You can program it to play one or more sounds at once and I think there are a total of 13 sounds. There is also a timer feature as well. I like it better too, because we can take it with us overnight and not have to worry where we are going to hang it. It can just sit on any surface. I highly recommend the Dex Sound Sleeper over the Nature's Lullaby Player.

We have used this for our daughter since she was born and she will be 2 in June. We used (and still use) the rainfall sounds to calm her and relax her so she can sleep. We started using it with the automatic shut off, and now we let it run all night. When we used the automatic shut off, she would wake when the machine would turn off. Since as others said, batteries were an issue, we just bought a battery charger (that came with 4 batteres) and four additional batteries and we switch the batteries routinely. The batteries are still going almost 2 years later. At the time the $25 for the batteries and charger seemed like a lot of money, but think of how much you would spend on changing batteries every 2 weeks. Now we have a new 8 week old baby. We got the Ocean Aquarium for our new daughter and that having many advantages the one disadvantage is that it turns off. The nature's lullaby does not shut off unless you program it to or turn it off yourself and that is a HUGE plus!! Ofcourse we have bought our new daughter this player and her own set of rechargeable batteries and she is sleeping through the night. (When we just had the aquaruim, she would wake when it turned off or start to stir which lead to her waking.) The player allows us to not have to go into her room every 10 minutes to turn it back on! As for the nursery rhymes, I will agree that there is nothing really soothing about them. We do use them though. When my older daugher was an infant and now with the new baby, we put it on the nursery rhymes during the day when she is just laying in the crib. The heartbeat and ocean sounds are both things that we rarely, if ever, used. Yet someone else may enjoy those as we do the rainfall. This player does offer many options to find out what sounds work for your baby. One final thought is that we hear the rainfall sounds through the baby monitor. This may bother some, but we enjoy the calming rainfall and also get comfort of knowing that the monitors are working properly. There was one time when the monitor was not on the right channel and we may not have known that if we were not listening for the rainfall sound in our daughter's room. We really love it and highly recommend it! (as well as rechargeable batteries) :)

The Nature's Lullaby Player is easy to attach to the baby's crib or bassinet. It features a soft light that quietly turns on and off with a push of a button. Of the four sounds it offers, we like the rainfall - it provides a soft "white noise" that you can set to automatically turn off after a few minutes. We use this almost every night for our newborn.

This is wonderful!!! I've used it on my little boy since he was born and it works like a charm. (He likes the rain the best.) It is SO worth the money! I'm a single mom so sometimes I just don't have the energy to rock him in the middle of the night. I don't have to feel guilty because I can just turn this on and he's asleep before the timer goes off. You can solve the battery problem by having two sets of rechargeable batteries - it saves a lot of money and you always have a spare set.

Our baby loves this player (especially the rain sound). You can definitely get by without it, but we found this portable player to be quite convenient. We took it with us whenever we went to other people's houses or restaurants to help our baby go to sleep more easily in a different environment. It does eat up batteries terribly, but we use rechargeable ones that make it much more cost efficient (recommend NiMH rechargables instead of NiCad, because NiMH have more power, can be recharged over 1000 times, and [most importantly] have absolutely no battery "memory" like NiCad's do (which prevents NiCad's from being fully recharged)).
