3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PUMP
The original review I wrote is below, but I want to make some additional comments. As my lactation consultant recommended, I purchased the expensive Pump In Style pump by Medela to replace this pump and I found that the Medela did not work AT ALL. I got engorged twice and am currently in the process of returning it to get a full refund. I am back to using the First...

This simply works! After using the hospitale-grade pump at the NICU my wife just couldn't adjust to anything else. We had almost made up our mind for going in for a rental or the Pump in Style, but I did not have the heart to fork out the big bucks for either. Somehow I ran into this, and looked at the price tag and decided to take a chance, quite convinced that I woudl still have to go in for a reantal. But this one worked!! And worked well!! She can now express 8 ounces in about 15-20 minutes!

Another thing, it does not make too much noise, and comes in a stylish bag with insulation section and an ice pack. Has an adjustable speed motor and extra breast shield.

All in all, in two days, we have been extremely happy with the product's performance. And the best is that it is rated for contant use, and not just ocassional use.

Update after 5 weeks: Still going strong! No sign of trouble, and its pumping away 6 times a day, 6-8 ounces each time. I'm glad I bought this, and saved big bucks

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Choice, November 26, 2003

I'm very, very pleased with this pump. I was using a manual pump, which, though it worked fine, was a royal pain in the butt, especially since I was back to work only a few weeks after my daughter was born. It became difficult to pump with it at work and I started to realize I was drying out. Since my daughter is only 2 months old, I really didn't feel ready to stop breastfeeding yet, so after some research, I decided to try this pump for the good reviews and the price--I simply couldn't afford the Pump in Style or the Double Ease or any of the other more pricey pumps with all the little goodies like the bag and cooler and all that.

It's been awesome, not painful at all--it's just a matter of finding your own comfort level with the suction. I've already noticed that my milk supply is increasing itself again, which makes me very happy.

There's only 2 things I would make different about it. One is to have it a little more quiet, though I've never heard any of the other brands working, so I don't know if this is considered quiet or not. I work at a Spa, so quiet is a bit of an issue for me. But it certainly doesn't decrease the value of this pump, and I would still buy it again.

The other is that I can't pump straight into my bottles like I was able to with the Medela manual I was using. I use the Playtex Nurser bottles and it came with adapter pieces that fit the manual so I could pump straight into the drop-in, but because the neck on this pump is so wide, I can't do that anymore. Not too big a deal, but it was convenient. :)

All in all, this pump is great, and I've already recommended it to a co-worker who is currently pregnant. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, May 19, 2004

I love this product! It works really well, I've been using it for 2 months now, and no problems. I don't think it's too noisy, just put the cover down and the sound is muted. The containers are frosted, but it's still easy to see how much milk there is (I used a sharpie and marked the ounces so it was easier to see). I wish there was a nipple and ring large enough to fit on the containers so you could feed directly, but pouring into another bottle really isnt that much of a hassle. It's not at all painful to use.Initially I started on the lowest level and slowly would work it up. Now I can start at the highest level, no problem.
I work 12 hour shifts at work, and discovered that the ice pack included doesnt last that long- didnt even seem to last 6 hours...so I bought a double pack of the especially for baby brand and out one of those in with it. Tight fit, but it keeps the milk cold.
FYI- defrost frozen milk in the fridge 8-12 hrs. Can apparently defrost by putting in running warm water, or just warm(not hot) water for 30 min- but I've never tried this. Use defrosted milk within 24hrs, dont ever refreeze.
I believe that you can get a brand new, with warranty, straight from the manufacturer on ebay.
I only got the single pump, and I sort of wish I had the double now that I'm back at work with limited time to pump. But, at the time of purchase single sounded easier to use. And it really takes two hands -one to hold, one to put pressure to get the milk out faster.
I definitly recommend this product- havent used the Pump N style, but why pay that much if this works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pump and customer service, March 9, 2005
This review is from: First Years Premium Single Electric Pump (Baby Product)
I LOVE this pump! I used the Avent Isis manual pump several times each day for 10 months with my daughter, which I loved, but felt like I had carpal tunnel by month 8 or 9. So this time around, I decided to look for an inexpensive but efficient electric pump. This one had good reviews, so I decided to give it a try... I am so glad I did! This pump has worked wonderfully for the past two months. I can easily pump 6oz in less than 10 minutes while my son is nursing on the other breast.

My only complaint is that the little rubber gasket on top of the pump adapter unit pops off too easily. Last night it popped off, and we can't find it anywhere! But a simple phone call to The First Years and they are sending me replacement gaskets (yes, plural!) I also requested if I could purchase an additional pump adapter unit so I have a back-up in case the first is dirty. They are sending all of it free of charge!

Kudos to The First Years for a great product and outstanding customer service!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased!!!!, November 20, 2003

This review is from: First Years Premium Single Electric Pump (Baby Product)
I bought this pump after careful review of all the electric pumps and despite some bad reviews decided to take a chance. And I really didn't want to spend $300 on the Pump In Style. I originally had a $15 manual pump and was able to express 4-5oz within 10 minutes (not bad) but quickly got tired of having to do it myself. Anyway, I think this pump is great! I don't understand some of the other reviews. I don't think this pump hurts at all. It doesn't suck nearly as hard as my little one yet I was able to get over 5oz in about 3 minutes! Much easier than doing it manually. And although the bottle isn't perfectly clear, I don't know how you can't see how much is in there! I do wish the bottles were bigger to hold more than 5oz but that's not a big deal. My only issue is that the milk flows back thru the suction tube when I'm done which they say can cause damage. To correct that problem, I disconnect the handle before releasing it from my breast. That seems to do the trick. All in all, I have to say that this is worth the money and does the job well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Save big bucks with this pump!!, September 11, 2004
This review is from: First Years Premium Single Electric Pump (Baby Product)
Being a first time mommy I didn't know how breast feeding would go and sure enough it didn't go as planned but I still wanted my baby to have breast milk. We had purchased a manual pump for when I went back to work, but that wasn't getting out significant amounts of milk and my hands were starting to ache from pumping 6 times a day! We considered renting a pump, but then saw this one online and decided to give it a try. Oh my goodness, is it a great pump! Right away I started expressing 6-8 ounces within 15 minutes and have been ever since. It is very easy to set up and clean, plus it has a control so you decide how hard of a suction you want. I would recommend this pump to all my friends and family!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mothers, save your money!, February 2, 2004

This review is from: First Years Premium Single Electric Pump (Baby Product)
Shortly after my son was born, I started using a mini electric Medela. After only three months and using this pump on a daily basis, I blew the motor. Apparently, this version is only intended for occassional use. Who knew? After a little research and my husband's advice not to spend a lot of money, I bought this pump. At first, I thought I would be back in the store buying a Medela because every women I spoke to thought they were the best. Boy, was I glad I did not listen to them. I not only saved $200, but have been using this pump for 6 months and just love it. The case is perfect for storing and traveling. It pumps quickly and quietly, which was a huge bonus. The other pump was so loud, you could not hear yourself think let alone have a conversation or watch TV. I am very pleased with this product and don't mind the chore of pumping anymore.

My daughter who is merely 17 had a great deal of trouble nursing her son during the first few weeks. After some research we discovered the Easy Comfort. This pump allowed her to express five ounces from each breast in a 30 minute period. She finds this particular pump very comfortable and loves it's adjustable suction.

Just before my third daughter was born I bought the Easy Comfort single breast pump. With two additional children I just could not afford to pay $300 for the Medella. I had gone the manual route with my first daughter but it was just not in the cards this time. I have been using this pump four times a day and getting 5-6 ounces from each breast in about 25 minutes. I've been using the pump for four months and have not had a problem.
