This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Bullet Catchers Series:
Kill Me Twice Thrill Me to Death Take Me Tonight What You Can't See: "A Reason to Believe" First You Run Then You Hide (Wade's story. Due for release in July 2008) Now You Die (Lucy Sharpe's story! Due for release in September 2008) Each book in this series can stand on it's own, but you will miss out on some of the bonds and history between these body guards if you start the series in the middle. Every book in the series so far is excellent. I recommend starting from the top. Five stories strong, The Bullet Catchers series has never let me down. Roxanne St. Claire writes modern mystery- thrillers that are vivid enough to make you "see" the scenes unfold. All the while, she develops a romance that is both steamy and emotional. Her heroes are big, powerful, intelligent (something I personally find very hot in a man), and completely loyal to their job and their loved- ones. Put these page- turning traits together and you have "The Bullet Catchers". In "First You Run", our hero is an Australian charmer complete with knee- weakening dimples. Adrien Fletcher, or "Fletch" to his friends, is known for being fearless. Raised by Aborigines in "The Bush", there is very little about the modern world that can frighten him. Adrien's principle is a highly intelligent college professor, author, and doctor of Maya history. Miranda Lang is ready to launch a book- signing tour to promote her new controversial non- fiction novel. Her book shatters a myth that many Maya historians believe to be true. One man in particular wants to make sure that Miranda's book fails to reach the public. He'll scheme, threaten, and even commit murder to meet his goal. Adrien's best mate, Jack, is in need of help. A woman who is dying of Leukemia needs to find her long- lost daughter for a bone marrow donation. At the same time, she needs Jack to uncover the truth about a murder case that has her spending her last days in a prison hospital. While Jack works to solve the case, he asks Adrien to conduct the search for her daughter. Adrien has a few weeks vacation from his position with the Bullet Catchers. He'll gladly spend them helping his friend who once saved his life. With his boss's consent to use The Bullet Catchers' many connections and resources, Adrien sets out to search the country for the missing daughter. Half- way through his list of possible women, Adrien believes he may have found the daughter in Miranda Lang. He gets more than he bargained for when he learns that she is the target of a madman's schemes. Time is of the essence. Adrien needs to learn if Miranda really is the missing daughter before Jack's principle succumbs to Leukemia. However, he can't resist helping Miranda defeat her unknown enemy. Without his protection, Miranda will face a murderer alone. His growing attachment to her makes it impossible for Adrien to abandon Miranda, even when he receives evidence that suggests she is not the daughter after all. Caught between his loyalty to Jack and his need to protect Miranda, Adrien is torn. Should he continue to guard the woman he has come to love, or follow the path of duty? One of the things that made me like Adrien so much was the fact that he didn't fight his feelings for Miranda. Once he realized what she meant to him, he didn't hesitate to hold her hand or hug her whenever she seemed to need it. Big, strong and tough, Adrien was all heart. I was a little concerned that this book was going to turn more into a paranormal, like "A Reason To Believe". There are some scenes where Maya gods and magic are part of the mystery. As much as I love paranormals, there are more than enough of them on the market. St. Claire's no- nonsense straight- shooting murder cases are a welcome change of pace. Most of the paranormal material in this book turned out to be trickery, but some things were left unexplained. In the end, it didn't overwhelm the story. If you'd like to read the whole series, here are the links: Kill Me Twice (The Bullet Catchers, Book 1) Thrill Me to Death (The Bullet Catchers, Book 2) Take Me Tonight (The Bullet Catchers, Book 3) What You Can't See (Compilation of novellas, including the Bullet Catchers story "A Reason To Believe") First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) Then You Hide (The Bullet Catchers, Book 5) Now You Die (The Bullet Catchers, Book 6) If you like body guard/ mystery romances, try the T-FLAC series. Here are the links to the first few books in the series: The Mercenary Kiss and Tell (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 2) Hide and Seek (The Men of T-FLAC: The Wrights, Book 3)

The Best Yet,
By
This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
When Adrien Fletcher agrees to help his best mate, ousted Bullet Catcher Jack Culver, find a baby adopted through a black-market ring thirty years ago, he never dreams he'd be thrust into the world of Maya culture. He's given a name - Miranda Lang - and a clue - she was marked with a tattoo. Together, they may be able to solve a thirty-year-old murder.
Miranda, an anthropology professor at Berkley, is promoting her book which debunks the theory that the Mayans predicted December 21, 2012 as the end of the world. But someone is out to stop her. Signings are disrupted or mysteriously cancelled, books disappear by the case and her life is threatened. If Miranda is indeed the adoptee Fletch is looking for, he must keep her safe from the lunatics who seem determined to stop her. And if along the way his attraction to Miranda turns into more, he'll just have to deal with that too. Fletch, a former member of the Tasmanian Special Ops, is the most engaging Bullet Catcher to date. He's fearless in the face of danger and known for his ability to get a woman horizontal and naked in under five seconds. Miranda is his intellectual match, but she's a woman hounded by fears. Who better to help her conquer them than Fletch? Watching these two in action was pure bliss. Sexy, thrilling, spellbinding, romantic - FIRST YOU RUN cover all the bases of a great romantic suspense while including a little history and geography lesson as well. The plot and characters hooked me from the first page and kept me hooked until I finished at four in the morning. This book - especially the hero - was well worth losing a night's sleep.

The Aussie Bullet Catcher,

This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Aussie Security agent Adrien is between assignments and agrees to help a friend find the adopted daughter of a woman who has spent the last three decades in prison for a murder she didn't commit and now needs a bone marrow transplant due to cancer. The only distinguishing characteristic is a tattoo somewhere on the daughter's body. After quickly going through the first several gals on his list, he comes across author Miranda, an authority on all things Mayan, who is being targeted by an extremist group. With a couple days to kill, he provides protection for Miranda and quickly falls under her spell and realizes she has no idea she was adopted, nor does she appear to have a tattoo. Can he move on to the next candidate and leave the woman he is suddenly falling for in the lurch?
St. Claire has penned a sexy new entry in the Bullet Catchers series, and this one has an open end, which could be good or bad depending on the reader. I personally like for stories to get resolved in a single novel so I don't have to wait several months to find out how it all turns out, so I was disappointed in that respect. But her heroes are always sexy as hell, her writing first rate, and her plots are always intriguing.

This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Roxanne St. Claire's First You Run will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one.
Bullet Catcher Adrien Fletcher wants to help a friend find a missing daughter that was put up for adoption many years ago. He convinces his boos Lucy Sharpe to let him use their resources on his own time to locate the grown woman. Thirty years ago this child was marked with a tattoo somewhere on her body. Adrien is willing to do anything to help his friend. The first name on his list is Dr. Miranda Lang. Dr. Miranda Lang, Maya expert is out promoting her new book about the ancient civilization when trouble occurs at her first book signing. Seems there are a few fanatics that don't like what her book represents. A handsome stranger takes her to safety when the crowd becomes unruly. Miranda is taken with Adrien Fletcher and agrees to a dinner date. She agrees as well to the protection that Adrien is offering but she does not know his true motives. Adrien is trying to find that illusive tattoo and at the same time trying to keep her safe. She is getting under his skin in more ways then one. Will Miranda continue to be with him once she discovers the truth? First You Run is another thrill a minute read in the bullet catcher series. Adrien and Miranda send sparks off of every page. You will want to know what makes them who they are and each new discovery is a delight.

Run to the store for this one,
This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading her last book (Take Me Tonight) I thought this author couldn't get any better. She proved me wrong with First You Run. It's fast, it's thrilling, it's captivating. The other reviews give you the plot blurb so I won't repeat that. Suffice to say that Fletch is her best hero yet. And the fact that this and the two other books coming out next year are all related is exciting. Characters introduced in this book will be the heroes of the next two. And if they're anything like First You Run, you need to buckle your seatbelt for the ride of your life. Absolutely a five-star read. I couldn't put it down.

Run for This One!,
By Rebecca Brooks (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been a fan of the Bullet Catchers series from the beginning and have to say that I think Roxanne St. Claire is one author of romantic suspense that really gets what this reader wants. I like a lot of action, a lot of tension, great settings, unusual premises, and, mostly, characters with a love story that's memorable. I've found that to be the case with all of her books, but this one really nails the perfect combination of dangerous situations and incendiary romance. The other reviews have recapped the plot, but I will add that you don't have to have read the first three books in the series to instantly get into this book. It's great to know who the characters are (especially Lucy Sharpe, the boss of the Bullet Catchers) but this author is very good at weaving in other/former characters without making the reader worry that you've missed something. The trilogy surrounds a mystery that's introduced and not completely solved in the end of First You Run, but enough of it is solved (with a great, surprising twist) that it is satisfying, while the love story and suspense that drives these two characters is a stand alone romantic adventure. But the best part is that it all works together. Oh, and the hero! Fletch is alpha all the way, but a total tender softie on the inside. I'm dying to read the next book (there's an excerpt in the back of this one and I'm hooked) and will probably re-read the previous Bullet Catchers in the meantime. And the third book in the trilogy is Lucy's story - can't wait!

Outstanding blend of suspense and romance!,
By MissPoppyM (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
*Loved* this book. A perfect blend of a heroine with an actual brain in her head, a hero with an agenda, and a villain who's actually a believable adversary. Ms. St. Claire has a very deft touch in knowing just when it's time for secrets to be revealed and romance to spark. No missteps here. Also, she never spoiled the story by going to graphic or gritty. Five stars!

Intelligent, fun, breathtaking.,

This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers) (Mass Market Paperback)
Perfect. This book exhales greatness. Not only because the characters are compelling or the story is creative. To me, what really caught my attention was how *intelligent* this book is. Writing a book requires lots of studying and researching about the subject, and, many times, even with a good story, the author just doesn't reach the whole essence of the issue they bring up in the book. In First You Run, St. Claire goes way beyond the stereotypical romantic suspense plots and delivers an absolutely fascinating, intelligent story.
Of course, the characters are just as fascinating. The tension that builds up between them is intense, makes you hold your breath, waiting for their next move. It's absolutely impossible to put the book down before finishing it, you just can't get enough of it. It's the perfect beginning for the perfect series. I love how St. Claire managed the perfect connection between First You Run and the others of the series, and, at the same time, developed an amazing stand-alone plot. Everyone should read First You Run (and the rest of Roxanne St. Claire's books, for that matter). Besides, it's HOT! :-D

FIRST YOU RUN,
This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
FIRST YOU RUN is Roxanne St. Claire's best book to date. Its fast paced action and passion keeps the reader turning the pages. Bullet Catcher Adrian Fletcher, a super sexy Australian, is on a mission to find a woman who thirty years ago was sold on the black market. His goal is to find this woman, who can be identified by a small tattoo somewhere on her body. Of course, this will involve lots of intimate investigation. Too bad Miranda Lang has no idea she was adopted nor did she ever get a tattoo. From all the research, Miranda is his woman. Adrian isn't going to tell so her until he is convinced. When Miranda, a highly acclaimed author and archeologist, is verbally attacked at a local gathering, Adrian Fletcher whisks her away to safety. She's not sure what to make of him, but when her life is threatened, she turns to Adrian for not only protection but for passion. The first of the trilogy, Roxanne St. Claire's FIRST YOU RUN does not disappoint.

Exhilerating,

This review is from: First You Run (The Bullet Catchers, Book 4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Stretch your muscles and grab your athletic shoes. FIRST YOU RUN is an exhilerating and sexy race against time.
In this first of three new Bullet Catcher books by Romantic Suspense author Roxanne St. Claire, a woman's life hinges on finding the daughter she gave up to a black market adoption ring thirty years ago. That daughter is Miranda Lang, a beautiful but reticent, college professor whose new book clearly debunks the myth that the end of the world will coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012. Miranda's book puts her square in the sights of the leader of a doomsday cult who stands to lose millions if the fraud he's perpetuated is proven false. Enter Adrien Fletcher, Aussie Bullet Catcher Extrodinaire. A man so absolutely stud-ly, he'll make you dream of soul patches and tats, gold earrings and yummy muscles. Protests, bombs and mysterious circumstances interfere with his goal to keep Miranda alive long enough to identify her as the missing daughter by finding her secret tatoo. A task that requires him to inspect every inch of her perfect body. FIRST YOU RUN delivers all the best we've come to expect - and love - from Roxanne St. Claire. From heart-throbbing macho men to meltingly tender love stories, from danger so real it leaves the reader gasping, to sex so real it also leaves the reader gasping, this book is a winner. I guarantee you'll be stalking the bookstore aisles for the second book in the series, THEN YOU HIDE, which is scheduled for release in late June. |
