More About the Author

The clue that Kathy Stinson has enjoyed a lifelong love of reading is in the wide range of books she has written. "What you read," she says, "influences what you write. And so does the day to day life that you live."

That's why Kathy's characters ride bikes along dirt paths, fall in love in summer, argue and have cozy chats with parents and friends, sometimes have trouble sleeping, and walk on beaches and city streets.

Kathy says, "It's also fun, as a writer, to imagine yourself into situations unlike your own." That's what she did when she wrote about Marie-Claire living through a smallpox epidemic in Montreal in 1885, and Mr. Elliot deciding as a grandfather that it's time he learned to read.

Kathy sorted mail, waited tables, and taught school before finally figuring out what she really wanted to do was write - everything from picture books to young adult novels, from biography to historical fiction. Readers never know what kind of book to expect from her next!

Kathy has served as Writer-in-Residence for several library systems in southern Ontario and has led writing workshops all across Canada.

Kathy is the mother of two grown children, who inspired some of her earliest books. She also has two grown stepdaughters and five grandchildren. If she's out buying them a present, chances are it's in a bookstore she'll be shopping. Of course!

4.0 out of 5 stars Find yourself, May 2, 2001

This review is from: Fish House Secrets (Paperback)
Reading the book you are confrontated with the two protagonists Jill and Chad. The story(s)are written in form of a diary from two perspectives. So in the beginning the reader would not expect this two stories having anything to do with each other. However, they finally meet. The start of a beautiful friendship...

We think the book has to get four stars because it is written in a very good and emotional style. That's why you can imagine protagonists` innermost feelings and think about your own feelings. Enjoy reading!

This review is from: Fish House Secrets (Mass Market Paperback)
The story is about two teenagers who have problems with their parents. The girl, Jill, who is 17 years old runs away from home because her relationship to her father becomes worse, since he steals her dancing money. She stays in the Fish House for three days where she meets Chad, a fifteen-year-old boy, whose mother died in a car accident. As they recognize that they have the same problems they fall in love. The book is written from Jill's and Chad's perspective and is divided up in three diary entries.

The book "Fish House Secrets" deals with two young people who meet each other in a small village at the eastcoast of Canada. Chad, who lost his mother in a car accident, stays his holidays with his father at his grandparents. Jill has problems with her father and runs away from home. She losts her way and stays the night in the old barn of Chad's grandparents. So they get to know and to love each other. -The book is written from two perspectives,so it is a bit confusing.-
