It's way more fun to learn something from fables, or listening to well told stories, than having to listen to a sermon, and Fish! takes a stab at the former approach. It doesn't quite get there.

If you live a busy, hectic life and are not happy with it, then I recommend this CD. I listened to it in my car on the way to work. I had heard of FISH! in the workplace, but this CD focuses on your home life and relationships. The idea comes from the FISH! philosophy started at the famous Seattle Fish Market. The book describes the changes that one couple made after they applied the principles that they already knew so well. They realized that they could have more control over their personal lives. They wanted to live life to the fullest. The best take-home point from the CD is that "you can choose your attitude"--it is something you have control over!

5.0 out of 5 stars the most inspiring book I have read lately, March 3, 2004
By
Paul Eade (Kennewick, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
If this book does not inspire you to come alive and get going with your life, nothing will. And it is not some philosoper's old boring stuff; it is real life from ordinary fish mongers. It is down-to-earth information that is easily read, easily undetstood, and easy to apply to your own life. I plan to reread this little book several times a year to remind me what any person can easily do to become "great."

The whole idea of the Pike Place Fish Market is inspirational. If you have ever been to the market in Seattle, you will be quite inspired and maybe even a happier person right away because if it. The people who work there are inspirational. They are succeeding personally and as part of a team. They are very happy to be working where they are. They have a formula for success that is really working, and working for ordinary people. This is why they sell tons of fish on the Internet. This is why they perform training programs all over the country. This is why they sell so many books and videos and T-shirts.

If you do not check into this source of inspiriation you are losing out. I'm so glad I know about Fish!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is splendid, March 22, 2004
This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
Fish ! was an exciting book that no doubt brought in a fresh perspective to light up our lives at work. Pike Place Fish Market ranks # 1 among the places that I would like to visit during my lifetime. Mary Jane , Lonnie and the kids now seem to have become a part of our own family. In this book, there is a happy homecoming for Grandma too.

Frankly, this book is the next logical extension of the author's first book Fish!. It brings the powerful philosophy from workplaces to our homes. Written in very simple words, the frankness and the depth of conversations between Lonnie and Mary Jane have the power to change the way we live at home. The Fish! philosophy can work wonders at home as much as it can at the workplace.

Read this book aloud with the family, ten pages a day and experience the joy of living . Thanks Stephen, my family joins me in thanking you for this wonderful book. We are grateful to Fish! and are committed to adopt it at home.

4.0 out of 5 stars inspiring and practical read!, May 29, 2011
This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
I really liked this book. Written in a similar style to the fantastic 'Serendipity's Secret' the practical learning points are woven around a hearwarming story. It is very simply written and very easy to apply the learning points to improve your life and to make instant improvements. The only reason I didn't give it an extra star is that, unlike Serendipity's Secret, it just lacks that extra spark to make me think 'that was amazing!'. Maybe it's because the family involved in the story didn't quite capture my imagination the way that Serendipity and Pollyanna did in 'Serendipity's Secret' and, although I was glad the story ended on a postive note, I wasn't left greatly moved the way I was at the end of 'SS' Nevertheless, if you want a quick, uplifting read with simple, practical steps to improve your life this is, in my view, one of the better self-help books around.

3.0 out of 5 stars Something Fishy Here, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Fish! for Life (Kindle Edition)
It's way more fun to learn something from fables, or listening to well told stories, than having to listen to a sermon, and Fish! takes a stab at the former approach. It doesn't quite get there.

There's no argument that humans who can't choose their circumstances CAN choose their response to these circumstances. FISH!, though, is a pat, overly simplistic response to the very real problem of how to endure jobs that seem meaningless and repetitive.

The author of the book leads a young and vulnerable (single mom, trying to support a family) woman through the steps required to turn a "toxic waste dump" of a job situation into an urban garden of delightful working conditions. The book makes it sound like a piece of cake. In reality, the scenario in which a new boss (or an old boss) rolls out a new way of doing things designed to improve productivity and enjoyment in the work place is the eternal fodder of sitcoms.

I'm not being cynical, here. My job involves counseling people that are deeply dissatisfied with their jobs, and the cures are far more complex than changing one's attitude and making the work place fun. Sometimes, jobs really ARE meaningless, and demeaning. In which case the cure is to take the steps necessary to change one's job. Sometimes inertia has left one in a job that is far below one's capabilities, and distant from the creative talents that light us up when we use them. And sometimes, one works for an employer that has created abusive working conditions. In the above circumstances, FISH! seems to me to be a sort of "opiate of the masses": read this book so that you'll feel better about being in a place that you should probably try to find a way to leave.

That being said, the book does have some pearls. If you have a job that is not abusive, that offers decent pay and good stability, there is content here than can make the workplace something far more tolerable, and even enjoyable. Worth the price? Hmmm. Consider getting a copy from your local library instead of buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Lundin Series, October 13, 2010

This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
This is one of many quick read books that deals with life and gives some advice on simple changes that have a significant impact on the overall quality and happiness of your life in terms of work, home and in general. I would recommend any of his works. And if you ever have the chance to see his live wrokshop it is worth every minute. He is a dynamic and engaging speaker.

1.0 out of 5 stars A hokey little book telling you to be happy & positive..., March 4, 2010
By
This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
I've read a variety of books like this and was quite disappointed with this. The bottom line seemed to be look on the upside & stay positive. If you are looking to achieve your dreams or transform your life this is not the book.

It wound up in the book donation dumpster in the local shopping mall parking lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm not much to say, January 7, 2010
This book is not bad, but just a little predictable the story is not bad either, but I have read better stories. It seems that the book is short, and missing the heart of the writer, I DID NOT READ any other fish! books but I don't think I'll find a lot of differences. If you have never read inspirational books before, this is a good one to start with.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor read..., December 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My reading club had finished reading a predecessor "Fish! Tales" when we decided to read this book. If you have not read about Fish! and want to do so, buy the Fish! or Fish! Tales books; they are a MUCH better place to start. If you have read the previous books in the series, ensure the Fish! principles are implemented with enthusiasm and in earnest; also, the same principles that succeed in the workplace can work at home too. There! I have just saved you a few dollars.

The written dialog is terrible. The overall message can be summed up in two sentences (see above).

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring the FISH philosophy to your home, May 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fish! For Life: A Remarkable Way to Achieve Your Dreams (Hardcover)
Bring the FISH philosophy into your homelife and affect the people that really matter to you.
FISH is about finding the positive in what you do and radiating that to others. It's a concise manner of stating that whatever environmental factors surround you, the weather, opinions of others, your bank account, and the like, the attitude you bring to your endeavors will supercede any negative result of those environmental factors.
Scott Ginsburg says it well when he says to make yourself "psychologically impregnable". Think about the power of that concept. If you can make yourself immune to what's goes on outside of your thoughts, you'll go much farther toward your success. Your thoughts are the only thing over which you have total control.
This book takes the FISH concept that succeeded in the Pike Street Fish Market of Seattle and shows you how to apply it to your homelife and reap benefits with the people that matter most to you.
You can finish it in ONE sitting...My favorite part!
