We bought this filter under the Ani Mate name with no UV feature. Exactly the same filter with a different label. The filter worked great on my 1000 gal. fish pond. Crystal clear water and what started off 6 years ago as a 8 small fish pond turned into a pond supporting over 20 large native fish including 3 Koi over 15 inches long. Evidently the fish like it too! Yesterday a large rock rolled off the top of the waterfall, hit the filter and cracked it. This filter was flawless for 6 years until a rock cracked the tub. The good news is you can buy replacement tubs for $30.00. Now we are looking at getting another 6 years out of this filter. The cleaning feature is great. We have only had to take the filter apart once a year for a deep cleaning. I highly recommend this filter.

This filter worked much better than my previous biofilter. For one, the cleanup was worth the price difference. I have a pond with approximately 1200 gallons with koi and goldfish. The fight is ongoing with this New Mexico sun and wind to keep my pond clean and clear. Not having to totally disassemble my filter every month was quite a relief. I've only taken it apart to clean it twice. It was pretty easy, no real issues.

It's not all roses though. The knob that switches between run and clean modes is a little difficult to turn at times. Also, even in run mode, I had a pretty decent flow of water coming out of the cleaning nozzle. The cap does however do a great job of sealing the water in, just make sure it is on pretty tight. I've also found that letting the clean cycle run just once isn't enough. Each time I clean it, I turn it back to run for about 5 seconds then back to clean. I do this about 3-5 times, until the water that first comes out isn't quite so awful looking. There is quite a bit of fine powdery sediment that passes through the filter. I have a two-tiered waterfall the filtered water must pass through before splashdown into the pond. This build up accumulates in these tiers to the point where it has to be vacuumed out twice a year. But on the plus side, my plants (water hyacinths, parrot feather, anacharis, and hornwort) seem to flourish in these tiers until I clean the sediment out.

I really like this filter. I did buy an external UV sterilizer to attach as well. I could've started an algae farm before the sterilizer. The combo of the sterilizer and this filter keep my pond pretty clear throughout most of the year.

I purchased this filter for my open tank, 325 gallons and mostly in sun. I have 3 Pekin female ducks who love to swim in the tank and for those of you who don't know, ducks are very messy water birds. I also have 3 female dwarf goats who like to drink from the tank so I need to keep the water clean and sanitized. I graduated them from a kiddie pool to the larger tank so I could maintain it without wasting so much water every day. I had a fish pond before and saved all of my equipment; however, during a move last year my pond filter went missing. I bought a smaller filter locally that just didn't cut it, so I went back to the Fish Mate filter because I know that brand works well. I chose the Fish Mate 3000 because it has the cleaning feature that makes maintenance so much easier. With the turn of a dial the cleaning process begins. So much easier than taking a filter apart and resealing everything. I use floating chlorine tablets to keep down the algae and I vacuum the bottom every couple of weeks. I totally recommend this filter for the size tank I have if it gets a lot of sun.
