Excellent book, great images and information. Not complete for ALL Mi species, but close enough for most general sportspersons and nature enthusiasts. Not scientific level, but very well put together.

I love this book!!! First, I am new to fishing...so I was looking for a general book on Michigan fish, as well as some general fishing knowledge. This book has both, and is very well written. It's also waterproof and made of very high-quality material. 5/5! Update 11/7/11 Still love this book, if nothing, it makes a good bathroom reader :)

Not only is this book pocket-sized, but the pages are water-resistant also. This field guide classifies fish based on looks (salmon, catfish, minnow, etc.) and includes a silouette of the family, so you can quickly see if your fish in-hand has 2 adipose fins, a spikey dorsal fin, etc. The illustration of the fish along with look-alikes is on one page, with a description, key features, location, and interesting facts on the opposite page.
My only negative is that the text doesn't indicate if the species is native or introduced. It does for some, but not all. I find it interesting that quite a few game fish have been introduced into the fishery, and it's neat to know which species those are. Particularly if it was a long time ago, to the point where even knowledgable anglers aren't sure if they are native or not. |
