When I first got this EP, I had no clue who these guys were. But once I spun the record I was quite impressed, and checked into them a bit.

The Sweet Trip is a rave group out of SFCA. They don't seem to be too large a phenomenon yet - Through opening for the bigger acts in the SF dance scene, their tracks seemingly drifted from one label to the next and eventually to Darla, which is how it got all the way to Illinois, where I bought it.

The thing that makes these guys stand out is their sound. They operate on a beatbox, a synth and an electric guitar: a bit odd of a combination that they have blended well. Their sound is cool, fresh. Nothing overly techno or jungle here, most of the album is more of a mellow soundscape, which has been wonderfully arranged, and harmony flows throughout.

Tracks 2 and 3 are the pinnacle of the album, they are cool, soft, ambient pieces of music. Of the more beautiful pieces of electonic music I can recall.

Hardcore Techno, DJ or Jungle kids may not dig this EP as much as they would the latest Global underground release, as I find it hard picturing a group like these having opened for such acts for years. They seem better suited to open for abmient labelmates Windy & Carl.

Overall, this is a very beautiful piece of music. If you're fortunate enough to see this, or any of Sweet Trip's other stuff in the racks of your favorite record store, give them a listen. Its a great album to turn the lights off and listen to.
