Two Fabulous ladies,
By
This review is from: Two Fat Ladies, Series 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
As a total foodie, I love these two wonderful ladies. I started watching them in the 90's and was very excited to see their show offered here. They are wonderful, quirky, eccentric, and very funny. They don't give you "proper" recipes but you get the idea of their dish.
As an American I love the fun they poke at us regarding our "streaky bacon" and accents. They do the best British "southern" impersonation. I don't really understand some of their ingredients but then they were in Britain so...as they would say..."there you have it" The best part of their shows are the exchanges they have with each other. I researched both ladies and I love that Clarissa was born of wealth and was a "barrister" (lawyer to fellow Americans) and is also a recovering Alcoholic. Kudos to you Clarissa for your sobriety. On the other hand, Jennifer (may you rest in peace) was a very devout Catholic...smoking and drinking during every episode and driving a motorcycle....and needing Clarissa to egg her on in jaunts in the woods. My favorite parts are when Jennifer refuses to walk another step and just stops and sits down. I don't think they could have written this script, it's too natural. If someone did write it then they should receive an award. I would have loved the chance to meet them both together...alas...I also would have loved to meet Julia Child...but that's never going to happen so I'm charmed and delighted to watch these two wonderful ladies online.

We have all shows from their short series of seasons on British TV and can't get enough of them, although there's plenty to go 'round!
I was sad to find out that Jennifer died in 1999, she's my favorite of the two. Aside from the yummy things they cook, it's just fun to watch. They're both such eccentric, extremely intelligent characters. It's feel-good TV with lots of adult humor. Don't think we would ever eat some of the unhealthy things they cook, but you do learn some things from each show and the locations are beautiful. Big fat kiss to the Two Fat Ladies! |
