No better Fishbone in one set!!!!, March 9, 2004
This review is from: Fishbone 101: Nuttasaurusmeg Fossil Fuelin (Audio CD)
Growing up in LA in the 80's my friends and I listened to Fishbone almost every time I went cruising. We saw them several times live. We couldn't help it. This 2 CD set truly is a EXCELLENT intro or reminder of the fun and power, not only music but intellectually, of Fishbone. The first CD covers the standard 'best set' from their albums. I love not needing to carry several CD cases now to get my Fishbone fix. The second CD is an excellent reminder collection for those fans who were actually there to collect this music, or for those fans who would like more Fishbone to play with! This album does NOT portray Fishbone as the excellent live band they are. See them in concert for that! This album does NOT cover ALL their great music. Collect all thier CD's, tapes, LP's and EP's for that. This album IS an EXCELLENT and large collection of great music by a great band at an super price. I hope you enjoy as much as I do!

A good collection that misses too much, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Fishbone 101: Nuttasaurusmeg Fossil Fuelin (Audio CD)
This is a nice collection, but be warned that CD2 is mostly rare tracks and B-sides that might only be of serious interest to Fishbone afficianados. CD1 is a mash up of most of their early work and hits. So, here's the rub... You miss some of the best songs off "Truth and Soul", a great album, as well as "The Reality of My Surroundings". Both albums are worth owning in their entirety. This compilation is like reading chapters of great novels. For the cost of this CD, you could score both CD's used, and have enough left over to maybe even squeeze in Chim-Chim's Revenge. I think Bruce McCullough said it best: "Best of albums are for housewives and middle schoolers". The used CD's are cheap, and you get the offbeat tracks as a bonus. Fossil Fuelin' is a great addition for the Dedicated Fishheads, but as "collection" in one Jewel Case fails miserably. Which is great, because you can just go get the real albums.

A summary of Fishbone's Columbia years of hits, outtakes and unreleased, February 25, 2009
This review is from: Fishbone 101: Nuttasaurusmeg Fossil Fuelin (Audio CD)
Want to know Fishbone? Look no further. The Fishbone from the start of their zany punk-rock energy (1985) to their hard rock/heavy metal maturity (1993). You will find their Columbia years best hits, outtakes, previously unreleased material and dub/instrumental versions. As for fans of Fishbone, you'll also get IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE/GONNA HAVE A GOOD TIME (EP) songs on here also. You start this double disc with the hits. We punk out with "Party At Ground Zero" one of the band's biggest hits, came out in 1985 so in no way, shape or form is this in any disrespect to the 9/11 (2001) terrorist attacks. "Modern Industry", the shout out call lettering jam. We funk out with "When Problems Arise", "Cholly", "Bonin' In The Boneyard" and "Lemon Meringue". We rock out with "Freddie's Dead" (a Curtis Mayfield cover), "Fight The Youth", "Black Flowers" and "Sunless Saturday". While the ska/reggae tunes are here also "Ma & Pa", "Ugly", "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Unyielding Conditioning". The acoustic "Change" to the Sly Stone influenced "Everyday Sunshine". This is the last of the original members Fishbone as we know it. The second disc is not as interesting as the first tho'. It's not bad but...well, let's see, the underground hit "Skankin' To The Beat" kicks it in motion. "And They Prey On You" gives you a little dance appeal to Fishbone along with "Fishbone Is Red Hot". "The Goose" is a Parliament-Funkadelic cover, funky in the beginning, mad rock in the end. And shockingly "Love & Bulls__t" is here from BONIN' IN THE BONEYARD/SET YOUR BOOTY UPRIGHT (EP). Everything else are like dubs and outtakes like "Alcoholic" (which was re-done for Fishbone CHIM CHIM's BAD^SS REVENGE CD, 1996). Overall, it's close to complete of a fun, zany, energetic and intelligent band whose played dues and never got what they deserved out of it. As Fishbone still tours and records till this day (March 2009), this set is their heyday hits. Bug Out!
