One of the best toys I've bought,
By Rebecca (APO AE) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
My husband and I bought this for our son for Christmas when he was 5 1/2 months old. He got excited just watching his daddy putting it together. He has been standing up (with help) since he was 2 months old. He loved grabbing the rattle and the microphone shaped toys and trying to put them in his mouth. He liked to look in the mirror. I liked that I finally had a toy that would hold his interest for more than 5 minutes. I also like that you can change it from music to music notes to sound effects so you don't have to hear the same song over and over. My son is 11 months old now and he still loves his piano. I have taken the seat off because he doesn't like to be confined now that he's getting around on his own. He crawls across the keyboard and pulls himself up. The sides are close enough together that he can reach either side once he's standing. He even more interested in the mirror now. He gets real close to it and babbles to the baby in the mirror. He's also learned to change the sound on his own. I bought this because I liked the idea of a toy that he could continue to use as he got older and it has proven to be money well spent. I would highly recommend this toy to anyone looking for a stationary walker. A note on the other reviews about possible injury, I have not had any problems with this toy. No pinched fingers or toes. When the seat was still attached he was never scratched by it but I'm always really carefully when I take him out of things because he has been hurt by other toys. Update June 2004: My son is almost 2 now and he still plays with his piano. It's 1 of the first toys little ones play with when they come to our home. Now that my son is older he talks into the microphone. He also changes the sounds on his own. He likes to hear the different music and noises when he switches them. The only problem I have with the piano is that my son using it to climb on to get into things. Although he's climbing on anything and everything now so it's not really a toy related problem. I would still highly recommend this piano.

My 5 1/2 month-old son got the Step & Play Piano for Christmas. He loves to sit in it and I loved the fact that it was very easy to put together. Everything just snaps into place. The music is not too loud like some toys and if you have a baby that talks a lot you may think the music should be a little louder. All of the toys are great except the trumpet. My son keeps droping it and he cannot pick it back up because the ribbon is not very long, but that is for safety. My son really likes the mirror and I like it because it is larger than most mirrors on baby toys. The seat slides and spins around with ease.I had a hard time finding this, but I was looking in the wrong section. It's not in the toy section, it's in the baby gear section. Some may think this is a little expensive, but it's worth it. When your baby doesn't like to sit in the seat and starts to stand, he can still use the Step & Play Piano because the seats comes out. Your child can walk inside and still play with the toys and step on the piano keys. I can't say enough good things about this toy. I love it and more importantly, my son loves it.

THE best toy...ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
During a midnight colic event last November, my husband and I took refuge in our local Wal-Mart where we purchased this toy for our five month old daughter in a desparate attempt for peace and happiness. She had reflux really bad and we thought this would help keep her body upright and her milk down - it worked like a dream. She started off in the seat and soon learned that she could swivel around and play with different toys behind her (she loved the microphone with the tiny balls inside). Later she found out that she could actually walk a little in it (because the seat slides from side to side). We removed the seat a couple months ago and she loved crawling across the bottom set of keys to make music. Now she's pulling up and standing inside to play with the toys on top again (I think she'd forgotten they were up there) - I'm not sure she will ever outgrow this toy. It's pretty pricey but to me it's been several toys in one. One note of caution - take your baby out of the seat slowly. Our daughter scraped her knees on the underside of the seat a few times before we figured it out.
