3.0 out of 5 stars My baby loves this wonderful toy--- but WATCH OUT!!!
We received this as a gift for our 5 month old girl, who loves it immensely. Even when we turn it off, she has the non-powered toys to play with. Keeps her attention well, and it's helping her sit up. BUT... Anyone who has this toy should check the plastic bottom of the seat, because my daughter was scratched twice by the sharp plastic when taking her out of the seat. My...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best toys I've bought, June 13, 2003
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
My husband and I bought this for our son for Christmas when he was 5 1/2 months old. He got excited just watching his daddy putting it together. He has been standing up (with help) since he was 2 months old. He loved grabbing the rattle and the microphone shaped toys and trying to put them in his mouth. He liked to look in the mirror. I liked that I finally had a toy that would hold his interest for more than 5 minutes. I also like that you can change it from music to music notes to sound effects so you don't have to hear the same song over and over. My son is 11 months old now and he still loves his piano. I have taken the seat off because he doesn't like to be confined now that he's getting around on his own. He crawls across the keyboard and pulls himself up. The sides are close enough together that he can reach either side once he's standing. He even more interested in the mirror now. He gets real close to it and babbles to the baby in the mirror. He's also learned to change the sound on his own. I bought this because I liked the idea of a toy that he could continue to use as he got older and it has proven to be money well spent. I would highly recommend this toy to anyone looking for a stationary walker. A note on the other reviews about possible injury, I have not had any problems with this toy. No pinched fingers or toes. When the seat was still attached he was never scratched by it but I'm always really carefully when I take him out of things because he has been hurt by other toys. Update June 2004: My son is almost 2 now and he still plays with his piano. It's 1 of the first toys little ones play with when they come to our home. Now that my son is older he talks into the microphone. He also changes the sounds on his own. He likes to hear the different music and noises when he switches them. The only problem I have with the piano is that my son using it to climb on to get into things. Although he's climbing on anything and everything now so it's not really a toy related problem. I would still highly recommend this piano.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a walker and a saucer in one..., December 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
My 5 1/2 month-old son got the Step & Play Piano for Christmas. He loves to sit in it and I loved the fact that it was very easy to put together. Everything just snaps into place. The music is not too loud like some toys and if you have a baby that talks a lot you may think the music should be a little louder. All of the toys are great except the trumpet. My son keeps droping it and he cannot pick it back up because the ribbon is not very long, but that is for safety. My son really likes the mirror and I like it because it is larger than most mirrors on baby toys. The seat slides and spins around with ease.

I had a hard time finding this, but I was looking in the wrong section. It's not in the toy section, it's in the baby gear section.

Some may think this is a little expensive, but it's worth it. When your baby doesn't like to sit in the seat and starts to stand, he can still use the Step & Play Piano because the seats comes out. Your child can walk inside and still play with the toys and step on the piano keys.

I can't say enough good things about this toy. I love it and more importantly, my son loves it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE best toy...ever, June 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
During a midnight colic event last November, my husband and I took refuge in our local Wal-Mart where we purchased this toy for our five month old daughter in a desparate attempt for peace and happiness. She had reflux really bad and we thought this would help keep her body upright and her milk down - it worked like a dream. She started off in the seat and soon learned that she could swivel around and play with different toys behind her (she loved the microphone with the tiny balls inside). Later she found out that she could actually walk a little in it (because the seat slides from side to side). We removed the seat a couple months ago and she loved crawling across the bottom set of keys to make music. Now she's pulling up and standing inside to play with the toys on top again (I think she'd forgotten they were up there) - I'm not sure she will ever outgrow this toy. It's pretty pricey but to me it's been several toys in one.

One note of caution - take your baby out of the seat slowly. Our daughter scraped her knees on the underside of the seat a few times before we figured it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alyssa & her parents give this product their thumbs up!!, December 9, 2002
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
My 8 month old daughter, Alyssa, absolutely loves the Step and Play Piano. She has a blast everytime she plays in it. She loves to stomp her feet and watch the lights go off. She is also entertained by all the activity features that surround her seat. You can adjust the seat as they grow taller. The feature that I liked the most was the seat set up. The seat can rotate in a 360 degree circle and can also slide from side to side for baby to walk. I love the colorful upper and lower keyboards. She also loves to play with the mirror, tambourine and the maracas. You can also adjust the volume & the mode of songs. This was an expensive toy for me but it will last until she is 3 years old. A great investment. Plus my daughter is worth it! Do check out Fisher-Price's website....

What I like least about this product was the trumpet. It just hangs of the rail making it hard for baby to reach. A plus was that it was easy to put together. If I can do it, anyone can!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun!, March 2, 2003

"puddincak" (Newark, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
My daughter is not quite 3 months, but already she's bored with her bouncer and doesn't want to lay in her crib and watch her mobile all day. So, when I bought the Step N' Play piano, she absolutely loved it! When her little feet hit those keys and the music and lights start to play she gets sooo excited. And I'm excited because I can do more things around the house while she's occupied. All of the brightly colored toys are set perfectly for her little arms to reach, the swivel chair and sliding feature is wonderful (she's already started to turn herself around) , as well as the mirror that she gets a kick out of looking at herself. This entertainer really keeps her attention for quite a while, and I like that the 2 sound settings aren't very loud, so the noise doesn't bother me or her or anyone else in the house. Kudos! to Fisher-Price. I Love It! I recommend this toy to all parents who want a safe environment to play and learn to take those first steps.

My advice is to clip the corners and/or cover this plastic... It caused my daughter two bad scratches(with bruises) before we realized what was happening. Please be careful to take care of this before you little one gets a boo-boo...

5.0 out of 5 stars Three toys in one!, December 8, 2003
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
We purchased this toy for our daughter when she was six months old and 7 months later it still continues to be a favorite of hers.

I initially liked the idea of the walker that is on the track because many babies are hurt in the walkers that the baby can freely roam around in. I never imagined she would love it as much as she did (and does)though!

When we first put her in it, it served as more of an exersaucer. She would sit quietly in it, look in the mirror, beat on the piano keys, and grab the little rattle. Then, one day, she realized she could actually move around a little bit and so back and forth she went on the track, stomping on the keys with delight. It warmed my heart to see my little girl enjoying something so much. Now that she is thirteen months old, the seat has been removed and she loves to stomp on the piano keys and compose her own music.

I think this one of the most versatile toys and it has lasted so long in our house that it is well worth the money. I'd recommend it any day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy, March 16, 2003
By
Aimee Johnson (Mount Airy, Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
I bought this toy when my son was 4 months old. He could barely kick the keys but still enjoyed playing with the toys on top. When he was five months old his feet could touch the keys on the bottom. He loved to pound the keys with his feet so hard. He would play in the toy for an hour at a time without getting bored. He loves to stand so I think this toy is great for him to strenghten his leg muscles. He LOVES all the toys on the toy bar, especially the mirror and the toys on the side that make a lot of noise. He enjoyes spinning around in the seat and grabbing whatever toy he wants to get at. He's now 6 months old and can walk across. When he's sitting, his legs are bent but enjoys standing in the toy. I don't think this toy is dangerous at all. I would recommend this toy to anyone. It is the best toy that we have got for him.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great alternative to a traditional exersaucer!, March 29, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
We started our son at about 4 mos in a traditional exersaucer and he loved it, plus it was a very handy place to corral him when we needed to have our hands free. At about 6 mos or so our family gave us the Step & Play Piano as a gift...we LOVE it!! It's very similar to an exersaucer but it has an added bonus - when the child starts walking, you detach the seat and the child can continue to use it as a play area. My son is now 8 mos and he still really likes being in this piano - he slides the seat back and forth in its track, he stomps his feet on the bottom keys, bangs his hands on the top keys, loves to shake the "tambourine" and "maracas", knock the bell back and forth, spin the mirror around, and spin the ball spinner and clicky spinners on the seat....

There are a few things I'm not crazy about though:
1. The on-off and music setting switches should be out of the baby's reach in my opinion; also the "notches" between the different modes on the music switch are really close together - in other words it's a little bit harder than it needs to be when you try to move the switch back and forth between settings to get it "just right" on one particular setting.
2. The paint that indicates each different setting next to the switches is easily scratched off - ours is already wearing off.
3. There's also a little purple tray underneath the mirror - and while I think it's a nice idea to be able to remove that little tray to clean it, it really should have some mechanism to "anchor" it in place - as soon as my son is in the seat, the first thing he does is yank out the tray and toss it on the floor. Does it really need to be removable? I really find it hard to believe people are serving meals in this little tray that would necessitate it being removable for washing.
4. I think the trumpet is fine on its little string, my son likes to toss it around, but I had to re-sew the threading on the bottom of the trumpet strap once because somehow it came completely undone.
5. I wish the seat fabric were a little easier to get on and off for washing.
6. I think the sound quality of the music could use a little improvement, it's a little brassy (tin-ny) sounding.

Before getting this I read the reviews about some people advising caution when pulling your baby out of the seat so their legs don't get scratched - well I've never had a problem with this. Yes, there are some edges under the seat which are somewhat pointy and could conceivably scratch the baby's legs - maybe this is something in the design that could be addressed by the manufacturer, but I just use normal gentle care in taking him out of the seat (as I would with any seat) and he's been fine.
I agree with another reviewer about batteries - we've had this for over 2 mos and he uses it every day, we haven't had to replace the batteries yet. All my criticisms are fairly trivial; as I said we really like this piano a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars baby loves this entertainer, October 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Fisher-Price Step & Play Piano (Baby Product)
I got this as a shower gift and couldn't wait to try it out. I gave in around 2 months and baby could barely sit up. haha. I put blankets all around her to hold her in place in the seat and I put phone books under her feet. Even then, she loved just being upright and looking at the lights and I played with the toys for her. I marvel as she learns something new each week. Now she's 5 1/2 months and she just learned how to scoot back and forth. My baby loves the "microphone" with balls in it. She shakes it and tries to stuff it in her mouth. She likes the twirly button, clear rattle on the seat, and she likes to rotate the mirror over and over. The music is enjoyable, I often find myself humming it around the house. I haven't had ANY problems or injuries (knock on wood) but I will take care now that I've heard about them.

My baby is self entertained with this toy for quite awhile, but she loves when I interact with her and talk to her while she's playing.

I definitely recommend this toy.
