Improved!,
By I am happy to report that both issues have been addressed. The new, improved clip (which is packaged separately from the pen) was so tight to fit onto the pen that I had to use the edge of my desk to push it on. It's there to stay! The improved grip is now a 1.25-inch area of concentric rings etched deeply into the metal. Good going, Fisher!

I searched for the best pen that can fit in my wallet and eventually found this. It has a lot of good points: it writes anywhere (very good at writing on napkins and skin without drying up), it fits in my wallet, and it looks cool. The only problem is the clip. The clip isn't attached to the pen and it can slip off. It's pretty tight and slips are rare, but a few times I've pulled out my wallet and found that the clip is still there, but the pen is floating around in my pocket. I still love my space pen, though.

I was sort of pen freak for a while and I used to have a great Parker pen until I lost it:( I needed something to replace the pen I always had on me for years. I had seen this pen in several stores and then finally I had a reason to really research it, and then I went ahead and got it. I realized that because the clip is on the cap, the pen always sits upside down. Whenever I go to use it, it's always ready to go and writes without any delay. I don't think any other pen I've ever used ever worked as well. I LOVE matte black finishes and compact things (especially when I intend to always carry it with me in my bag or pocket) so this pen is perfect for me. I guess I have sort of small hands so it's a good size to write with even without the cap on. It's great that putting the cap on the end makes it a regularly sized writing implement for those with normal to large sized hands. I highly recommend it:)

Best pen around...,

This pen is truly excellent. It is super durable -- I have dropped mine on concrete many times, and I once left it out in the yard for a week and a half, with no problems. The grip is also nearly perfect. I find it to be better for extended writing than any other pen I've tried (except the PenAgain Y-shaped pens, which don't really count).
The only flaw is that, on mine at least, the clip tended to slide off the back of the pen. After it slid off a couple of times, I hit it with a drop of superglue, and it has been perfect since. Highly recommended. This pen is truly from a different era, when Americans designed beautiful, serviceable, mechanical things that functioned well and lasted a lifetime.

I've used a lot of pens in my life, but this one is by far the best. Not only is it a great pen, but it's also a great conversation piece. Last night, I took my space pen to the bar, bought a girl a drink, and then i whipped out my pen. I mentioned that it writes under water, through grease, upside down...you name it! Latter on, i used the pen to write down her telephone number! Without this pen, I'd still be single! Thank you space pen!

Space Pen,
Gave these as gifts for groomsmen in my wedding. I told the wedding party about the Seinfeld episode about the space pen.
A couple of the groomsmen immediately started testing the pen by writing upside down and on a wet piece of paper. They were a hit.

I knew exactly what I was buying in this purchase: a pen that is practically indestructible, that will write under almost any conditions, and that may be tucked or clipped away in a small space. Great for anyone on-the-go or just needing a durable, attractive writing implement. How did I know what I was buying? This is my third Fisher Space Pen (or so). All the previous ones were either lost (lent and never returned) or stolen. I bought this item (as, I am sure, many others do) because my previous Fisher pen "grew legs." Another one bites the dust! I got exactly what I wanted -- quickly and at a reasonable price. Good item, good seller, happy customer. PS: DO NOT BUY the newer Space Pen with a blunted cap (one end flattened). It does not "hang together" when you turn the writing end backwards and insert it into the cap for storage.

I was searching for a small pen I could clip to my cell phone holder or to my work ID badge I wear on a lanyard around my neck that would be easily accessible and would write in all kinds of weather conditions. The size is ok but the clip keeps slipping off the end and continually removing and replacing the cap adds to the annoyance factor of something that should just work without having to fiddle with it. A much better design would be to have the clip built into the pen and to add a ring so that it could be attached to a keyring or carabiner clip to avoid loss. I could do without having a cap altogether and just have a click mechanism to extend and retract the point for writing.
