Excellent read, July 7, 2010
This review is from: The Fisher: Life History, Ecology, and Behavior (Paperback)
Excellent overview of all aspects of Fishers (Martes pennanti). Though it is a little old, the information is still valid, so all the date means is that you can easily find it used. My only gripe is that ALL the pictures are in black and white, but there are a lot of great illustrations, charts, diagrams, and photographs so this is a small complaint.
It is a quick but somewhat dense read, and quite technical at times so I would recommend a moderate knowledge of anatomy and biology or some of the chapters (specifically the sections on teeth) will be gibberish. Also familiarity of some formulas regarding population dynamics and metabolism would be helpful for the chapter on Ecological Energetics, but a casual reader can easily skip that chapter.
There are great facts and anecdotes which make this an interesting read for anyone interested in the only species who are able to eat porcupines, or just large weasels in general.
