I have been in the upscale appliance retail and wholesale business over 20 years. I was there when Fisher & Paykel first came to the US with their top load washer; such a well designed machine that is is still available (albeit with some cosmetic upgrades) at an affordable price. I owned one of their washers for eight years and only ever had one problem with it which was self imposed - I put 2 bath mats in the washer and the machine freaked out and shut down in the spin cycle. I called F&P and we were able to fix the machine by phone.

When the dishdrawer hit our shores some 12-14 years ago, it was a mess. There was almost a 50% failure rate on the machines. You would think that this would have sunk the concept and the brand in the US, but I believe the consumer did respond positively and Fisher & Paykel soldiered on, improving the product, reducing failures and gaining market share. As each new version hit the market, the product steadily improved and so did our sales. I believe the last generation (version 7) was glitch free.

Recently, I did a major remodel of my house and decided to install a double dishdrawer. I must say that is does a great job washing the dishes (I don't rinse), it's quiet ( I have a large open floor plan w/vaulted ceilings and tile floor and I can't hear it running).

So, like many companies whose product is viable, F&P finally got it right. The blogosphere is ubiquitous and everlasting, so this gets a bad rap. But kudos to F&P for sticking with it and getting it right. I believe many of the negatives out there are installation related and F&P takes the blame. So be it. But, this is a marvel of a product whose time has come; I am very happy and confidently promote this dishwasher to my customers.

The newest version is the best yet; they increased the overall height of the top drawer so it fits a 13" tall item and improved the racks. It just keeps getting better and better.......

I felt it was necessary to comment from a different angle; I both sell and own this product. I hear all of our customer's and my wife's feedback; I say this product has hit it's stride.

I have paid $1450. in repairs. since buying it 3 years ago. The issue seems to be with the actuators which lower the lids down and seal them. I am so careful not to overload or have anything in the way of the delicate little lids and still, it's broken again. Debating whether to sink more money into this loser or whether to junk it, after all of this money and buy a workhorse. In the meantime, we're washingh dishes by hand. Do NOT buy this dishwasher, it is nothing but trouble and wayyyyy too delicate, even for the loving appliance owner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over 6 years and going strong, June 3, 2010

Okay, I've read the other reviews, which are quite mixed. I hope this one will help you decide whether or not you should invest.
PROS: Quiet, practical, washes dishes and pots clean every time. Has multiple cycles (including a 12 minute rinse and an ECO button). My first FisherPaykel was a double drawer in white. It worked well and I never had to call maintenance for it. I had it about 3 years before I sold my house and moved. I purchased a new home and a new FisherPaykel in stainless steel and had the handles changed to black for contrast. The model number is DD605SS. It has the same features as the white dishwasher and I have had it 3 years now with 0 problems.

CONS: I wish the drawers were a little taller for pots and other tall appliances. The new model, DD24DCTX6, has answered that wish, as the drawers are designed taller to accommodate taller dishes and pots.

I am very pleased with my Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and in my opinion think it's worth the investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this dishwasher, July 17, 2010
This review is from: Fisher & Paykel : DD24DCX6 Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer - Stainless Steel with LCD Display
Okay...so I realize that this is not a perfect dishwasher, but I don't believe a truly perfect appliance exists!

We had a Fisher Paykel in our first home and then when we moved and did a kitchen remodel, the Fisher Paykel was our first choice! In fact, we are moving again, and are planning on purchasing a third.

It's very quiet and if you rinse leftover food off your dishes before you put them in, it cleans beautifully. And best of all, it is so great having the 2 drawers! We can get a lot of dishes into a drawer, but you actually still have some dishes in your cupboards when a load is being washed!! I like the smaller loads as it is much more manageable. I don't want to spend 1/2 of my morning putting away dishes. Plus, I would imagine that regular dishwashers get stinky if you wait to fill them up.

I'll agree with one of the reviews and say that kids cups do get tossed around a bit, but they are really supposed to be washed on the top racks anyway. I'm pretty sure that they would get tossed around in any dishwasher, not just this one.

If you are considering this dishwasher, be sure you find a plumber who has installed one before as I think this is very important! Also note...this dishwasher does not require an air-gap (don't let the plumber tell you that it does...my husband is a contractor)! Oh, and one more thing...if you are looking for a dishwasher that has smaller dimensions, look no further! The depth is a little shallower than standard dishwashers, so it fits under counters better and looks built in.

Anyway, I just had to put my two cents in when I saw the horrible reviews!! Happy washing!!

I have owned this unit for 2.5 years and between the poor wash quality, poor customer service, and constant repairs I ready to throw this 1000.00 dollar plus appliance out the door!!!!! I have had this unit repaired four time in the last 2.5 years; mother board x'2, a faulty soap dispenser, and today a motor in the upper unit all of course out of warranty. I wish that I would have listened to the reviewers when I bought this unit- the cool design & concept got me! Please heed my advice and stay away from this unit IT'S JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great looking, no, incredibly gorgeous appliance. If you are setting up the house for display, no other dishwasher comes close.

Unfortunately, it has a minor shortcoming. Namely, it does not wash dishes well. Large items such as pots simply do not fit into the drawers. The duplicate sets of water jets are also not as powerful as their counterparts in similarly priced competitors of the traditional single-door design.

Additionally, according to Consumer Report, Fisher & Paykel dishwashers suffer from extreme quality issues, with a 25% rate of major repairs, which is more than twice of the nearest competitor. The unit that I have personal knowledge of got both motors burnt out shortly after the one-year warranty expired. Although they cost only $50 each, the labor can be expensive. Waiting for them to be shipped from Australia is also no fun.

As of April 2009, there are only three vendors selling double-drawer dishwashers in the US. Other than this Fisher & Paykel DD24, KitchenAid re-badge the same thing as KitchenAid Stainless Steel Double Drawer Dishwasher. Sears sells a double-drawer Kenmore Elite unit that also looks suspiciously similar. They all garner miserable quality ratings from users of a year or more. So, unless you are a real-estate agent setting up the house for sale or a lucky housewife who never cooks, buy the Kenmore Pro or Bosch Evolution 800 Series Stainless Steel Undercounter Dishwasher instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Want to love this, but sadly, sadly disappointed :(, October 21, 2011
This review is from: Fisher & Paykel : DD24DCX6 Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer - Stainless Steel with LCD Display
We purchased two of these for our new home and were more excited to get them than any other appliance in the kitchen. We bought them in January but left them at the dealer until May when the kitchen was finally ready. The units were installed by a professional plummer and after that the problems began. Keep in mind that we installed 2 of them in May and it wasn't until August that factory service was able to get one of them working (one of them!) the other one is still not working and it is now October. I believe we have about one and half months left on the warranty. The repair service has been here somewhere around 10 times though I've lost count. On the one that doesn't work they have replaced nearly every part but the case. The repairman was supposed to be here yesterday and once again we made sure someone was here all day, but as usual we were at the end of the line and delays caused him to not make it. They called to reschedule and guess what? They can't schedule the next appointment for over 3 weeks! Fisher/Paykel has tried fairly hard, even sending a regional factory technician out to fix them, but after two trip (800 miles round trip each-driving)he was unable to fix one of them. I called the F/P service line and they were down right rude (well I should say the woman I talked to was as helpful as possible, and the guy I talked too was unbelievably rude Apparently, at least if you can believe the service rep on the phone, he is as high up in the company as you can go. I suggested that F/P might consider exchanging the dishwasher for a new one (though you could argue they have one piece at a time) but apparently that is not an option. It's strange because the warranty so far has to have cost them at least double the cost of the dishwasher. Just as an aside, we purchased the ones that you can add your own cabinet front too, and put expensive horizontal grain maple on them. The dishwasher leaked over the top and ruined the wood veneer (which F/P is not doing anything about). I was told by service that the dishwasher wouldn't do that so it must be something I did (they are always ready with a good suggestion it seems). I am bitter, there's no question about it; we wanted to love this product but a combination of poor quality and bad service has caused us to wish we had never even considered them. Hope they get the one fixed before the warranty runs out. Oh! By the way, the washing capabilities are only about as good as a really inexpensive ($250) dishwasher.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept poorly executed, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Fisher & Paykel : DD24DCX6 Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer - Stainless Steel with LCD Display
We were greatly attracted to the two door design, The product worked very well for the first six months, then leaked water on our floor. The FP repair man told us to be sure and pre-rinse every dish as debris can interfere with the valving. He certified the installation was proper. We had three other service calls to repair various items during the first two years, which is ridiculous for such a high-end product. We enjoyed the convenience of the two-drawer design and tolerated increasing noise. Finally after seven years the upper drawer pump failed, Upon disassembly, I discovered a pool of water and build up of scum and calcium. Evidently the drawer has never drained well. So much for a clean wash. We surrender and are replacing the unit. FP is permanently off our list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Purchase Ever!!, December 29, 2011

This review is from: Fisher & Paykel : DD24DCX6 Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer - Stainless Steel with LCD Display
I have been putting this dishwasher through heavy use sense Thanksgiving. I have to say that this is hands down the best dishwasher I have ever owned. The cleaning capability of this machine (baked on macaroni and cheese - NOT rinsed) has far exceeded my expectations. I do not hand wash my pots and pans and my largest, multi-quart capacity pot fits in both drawers just fine. I have to use the top drawer for my longer cooking utensils, but even at that, I have laid them down on the side shelves and they get clean all the same. And speaking of the side shelves, I was worried that since the glasses just sit freely on the shelves that they would fall off. Not so. And my glasses come out sparkling and spot/debris free. In fact, my dishes have never been cleaner. The machine is easy to use, versatile and I love the ability to run the drawers separately and at different cycle settings. So I can run a really dirty load on the bottom and a light clean load up top.

I have to say, that all the bad reviews caused some concern for me, but I had a professional company install my machine and it has been thrilling me ever since. Kind of funny to write of a dishwasher thrilling me, especially because I am not a very domesticated, cookie baking type of woman. But ladies, this is my Ferrari in the kitchen.

So, in my humble opinion, the people most likely to write a review are the ones that have a complaint. No appliance is perfect, but as for me, this is as close as it gets and I will never buy anything else again. And I find it interesting that most of the bad reviews of this machine recommend another brand. I question the integrity of those reviews.

I love, love, love this machine and if I could give it a higher rank, I would.

1.0 out of 5 stars P.O.S. Don't Buy This JUNK!, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Fisher & Paykel : DD24DCX6 Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer - Stainless Steel with LCD Display
This machine has continual problems with the lids closing and sealing properly so that water doesn't leak out and set off the flood code warning shutting the machine down. We have had ours serviced about every 18 months. This last time the repair estimate bill for the replacing lids and drop-down motors was $482, which would bring our total cost for repairs in excess of what the dishwasher cost us in the first place. I'm tired of the service guys telling me they don't see many of these but when they do its always the same problem. Fisher & Paykel, this thing is a piece of JUNK!!! You should be replacing EVERY ONE of these pieces of **** AT NO CHARGE! My wife hates this thing so much I don't she would even consider a free replacement. I want to give this product review ZERO STARS, but it won't let me do that so one star it is. DO NOT BUY!!!!!
