5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny so far!
I bought this toy after considering the 5 in 1 by Little Tikes. I had read a lot of negative reviews about babies kicking the 5 in 1 gym away from them while using the kick bar. My 10 week old LOVES to kick, so I kept searching. This toy is perfect for him! Although the picture shows the baby under the gym playing with the toys with his hands, I positioned my son so...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK toy, but not a musical instrument.
While my 4 month old likes this toy so far and I'm sure will continue to enjoy it, I was a little disappointed by a few things:
1. the keyboard lights up while the music plays, but only in a random pattern that has nothing to do with actual musical notes of the songs that are playing.
2. in mode 1 when baby successfully kicks or hits the toys to start the music,...

I bought this toy after considering the 5 in 1 by Little Tikes. I had read a lot of negative reviews about babies kicking the 5 in 1 gym away from them while using the kick bar. My 10 week old LOVES to kick, so I kept searching. This toy is perfect for him! Although the picture shows the baby under the gym playing with the toys with his hands, I positioned my son so that he could kick it instead and he was in heaven. He loved to see the piano light up and play music when he kicked the toys. Plus it has a volume control with a soft mode (something the 5 in 1 lacked). I have no idea if he will like the other 2 modes as he grows older, but regardless, it is worth the $45. He stayed under it for 45 minutes last night, had a ball and the toy never moved! If your child loves to kick, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rockin' Good Time, April 12, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price® Baby Gymtastics™ 3-in-1 Rockin' Gym™ (Toy)
Fisher Price does it again. A wonderful toy that transitions from infancy to toddlerhood. I purchased this for my [...] infant. She loves to lay under it and look at the lights. At 3 months she kicked at the toys with her feet and enjoyed the show!!! Now at 4 months she can bat at the toys with her hands to activate the music. She also loves to pull the toys off and use as teething rings. My other [...] daughter loves to use this when converted to the rocking horse. The piano is also removeable to take anywhere. It is durable and entertaining. It is also very easy to assemble. A great toy for any child from birth to age [...] Well worth it!!!!!!!!!!

My two-month-old daughter loved this from the moment we put it together and put her under it. She will play by batting at the toys and loves to watch the lights dance. The toy will amuse her for at least 20 minutes. I'm not sure how she'll enjoy it as it converts to the other uses, but it was well worth the money for the use we're getting out of it now.

Also easy to assemble!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy for Infant & Toddler, September 2, 2006
This review is from: Fisher-Price® Baby Gymtastics™ 3-in-1 Rockin' Gym™ (Toy)
I bought this Rockin' Gym by Fisher Price not knowing whether it would be a good toy for my sons. Let me tell you this is the best $40.00 I have spent. My 5 month old loves to kick and push the toys that hang with his hands and feet. This toy can be used both ways. My 2 1/2 year old son love it in the "big boy" mode where you sit and play the piano. It is very easy and quick to convert to either play mode and serves as a toy they both can use! I love this and recommend it to all parents!!

Happy shopping!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK toy, but not a musical instrument., July 1, 2007
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

While my 4 month old likes this toy so far and I'm sure will continue to enjoy it, I was a little disappointed by a few things:
1. the keyboard lights up while the music plays, but only in a random pattern that has nothing to do with actual musical notes of the songs that are playing.
2. in mode 1 when baby successfully kicks or hits the toys to start the music, the music plays for about five minutes. Keeping in mind that this is supposed to reinforce cause and effect, I think the music plays much too long for the infant attention span. Granted, if they hit the toy again while the music is playing, it makes another sound - but this occurs as an interruption to the song that is playing and is lost on a very young baby. Would be better if only 1 short song played in response to baby's kick.
3. There is no mode that just lets the child create their own music using the keyboard. The third mode does let them play notes, but their music is overlaid on songs playing in the background - very distracting.
4. I second a previous reviewer's comment that the keyboard is too high for baby to reach while lying on their back and that the keys are difficult to press. My baby has better luck making sounds playing our real piano.

Overall, this is a cute and well made toy, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a music background or parents hoping to teach their kids something about music through play. Too bad, cause it would have been so easy to make it both an excellent toy and first musical instrument!

I love any toy that can be adapted as my baby grows, and the detachable keyboard is great for travel. However, my little girl isn't quite ready yet to grab and push the dangling toys, so I use it in front of her feet when she's in her bouncy chair, and she kicks them instead. It's too bad that it doesn't change the order of the songs or play more of them, after a few rounds she gets bored and is ready to do something else.

My daughter just turned 4 months old. I got the gym and put it together yesterday. She thinks it is the greatest thing since bubas. She was having one of those fussy moments where she was tired but didn't want to go to bed but didn't want to do anything else either. I put her under it and she played for 45 minutes then went to sleep. She'll grab the toys and bat at them and she'll also scoot herself up so that she can kick them with her feet. She normally gets bored with any toy after 5 minutes.

Our son loves kicking and playing with the hanging animals. His older cousin enjoys the rocking horse version. Both enjoy the flashing lights and sounds. Great toy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised, February 16, 2008

We got this for our son when he was about 3-4 months old, hoping to entertain him for a while. We really don't like the music on this toy. The music (all 3 settings) has an incessant reggae beat, which makes it hard to recognize any of the songs. Then, on setting 3 (the "piano mode")the "ad copy" makes it seem like the child can just press the keys & play, which isn't true. There is an underlying (very loud!) music playing which is very distracting. My son was also able to pull this toy on top of himself, and to pull the hanging toys off the hangers. Now that he is almost 10 months, he does enjoy rocking on the rocking feature, but I'm still disappointed that Fisher-Price couldn't have designed the piano more sensibly.

My daughter got a lot of use out of this when she was 3-4m old, the lights and hanging toys kept her attention long enough for me to take a shower. Now that she is almost 6m old she has gotten kind of bored with it and is more intersted in rolling around than playing with it. I will see how she likes it when she can sit up and use the piano part by itself, and then use it like a rocking toy. There seems to be a bit of a gap between phases of this toy when she is bored with one stage and not quite ready for the next. The quality is good though and I don't doubt it will last through all the stages.
